CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of New Hampshire senior Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y./Sherburne-Earlville) set a school record to lead the Wildcat women at the Larry Ellis Invitational and capture the female Field Performer of the Week accolade. University of Maine sophomore Jesse Labreck (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) won the Holy Cross Heptathlon to earn the female Track Performer of the Week award while rookie teammate Jamie Ruginski (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) led the Maine men to first place at the Holy Cross Quad meet to claim the male Field Performer of the Week accolade. University at Albany freshman Jonathan Santana (Rochester, N.Y./Edison Tech) garners the male Track Performer of the Week honor for the week ending April 18 after qualifying for the IC4A Championship in three separate events at the first annual “Dogfight.”

Lathrop remains dominant in the hammer throw, claiming her third straight title in the event at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Lathrop won the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 55.51m, which is the best posted by a conference thrower this season. Her mark ranks 58th in the nation and is a new school record. This is Lathrop’s third consecutive weekly honor.

Labreck won the Holy Cross Heptathlon, beating out last year’s America East champion New Hampshire’s Kathryn Early. She won the event by accumulating a total of 4,922 points. Labreck’s mark tops the performance list and also qualifies her for the ECAC championship in May. On her way to the title, Labreck set a school record in the 100m hurdles (13.75).

Ruginski led the Black Bear men to first at the Holy Cross Quad meet over the weekend. The rookie captured two titles, winning both the long jump and the triple jump with marks of 6.89m and 14.31m, respectively.

Santana posted three IC4A-qualifying marks at the first annual “Dogfight” between University of Connecticut and the Great Danes. The rookie won the 400m in a time of 48.48. He then ran a leg of the 4x100m relay that placed second in 41.75. To end the day, Santana ran a 47.9 second split to lead the 4x400m relay team to first in 3:16.98.

Albany – The Great Danes prepped to become the first school to win all four America East Conference track and field championships in the same academic year by competing at two separate meets hosted by Connecticut on April 17. The women’s team participated in the UConn Select Invitational while the men fell to the Huskies afterwards, 122-78, in the 1st Annual “Dogfight,” a dual scoring meet between two of the Northeast Region’s top programs. The women’s program won five events and had two individuals qualify for the ECAC Championship. Junior Kadine Johnson (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) shattered her own school record in the hammer throw and became the school’s first ECAC qualifier in the event by registering a third-place toss of 53.05m. Sophomore Catie Coxon (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg) also qualified for ECACs by placing second in the discus throw with a personal-best toss of 46.40m. Her mark also topped the conference performance list. Senior Fey Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y./Trevor/Central Florida) won the 400-meter dash in 56.09 and anchored the victorious 4x400-meter relay that hit the tape in 3:56.83. Freshman Ashley Mahlmeister (Unadilla, N.Y./Sidney) won the triple jump by leaping 11.44m. She also placed third in the long jump (5.29m) and 100m hurdles (14.71). Freshmen sprinters Jonathan Santana and Taylor Chaney (Huntington Station, N.Y./Saint Anthony’s) led the men’s team, which won four events and posted eight IC4A Championship qualifying marks in its dual meet against the Huskies. Santana won the 400m in 48.48 to qualify for IC4As, while Chaney placed first in the 200m by running a personal-best time of 21.88. Both student-athletes were members of the victorious 4x400-meter relay team (3:16.98) and the second-place 4x100-meter relay squad (41.75) which turned in IC4A qualifying performances. Senior Valete Graham (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael) won the long jump by leaping 7.16m to round out the list of event champions, meeting the IC4A standard. Junior John Moore (Fort Johnson, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) and sophomore Nick Santos (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central), who placed second (1:50.45) and fifth (1:51.53) in the 800m, respectively, also eclipsed IC4A marks while freshman Sean Halpin (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Iona Prep) qualified for USA Junior Nationals by registering a fifth-place finish in the 1,500m (3:57.25). Albany will compete at the Penn Relays on April 22-24 and also send athletes to the Capital District Classic on April 24.

Binghamton – The Bearcat women finished fourth while the men finished fifth at the Bucknell five-way meet. Sophomores Michelle Eberhart (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and Kaitlin Sullivan (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led the women with second-place finishes at the meet. Eberhart leapt to a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.27m while Sullivan earned a silver medal in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.92. The women’s 4x400m relay team also captured a second-place finish at the meet, crossing the finish line in 4:02.72. In the field, freshman Jenna Marrione (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) claimed a third-place finish for the Bearcats, clearing a height of 3.45m in the pole vault. On the men’s side, freshman Dustin Ross (Bainbridge, N.Y./Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton) posted the Bearcats’ only individual title of the meet, winning the 400m in 49.57. He also ran a leg of the 4x100m relay that placed first in 42.62. Junior Cazal Arnett (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King), who was also a member of the victorious 4x100m relay team, tied for second in the 200m (21.90) while classmate Andrew Ugolino (West Hurley, N.Y./Onteora) earned second in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:34.8). The Bearcats’ 4x400m relay team claimed Binghamton’s only other title of the meet, crossing the finish line in first in an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:16.87. The Bearcat squads next compete in the Penn Relays on April 22-24 and the Cornell Invitational on Sunday, April 26.

Boston U. – Junior Rich Haigh (Orange, Conn.) and freshman Allison Barwise (Orange, Conn.) represented the Terrier squads at the two-day Holy Cross Heptathlon & Decathlon on April 14-15. Haigh won the men’s decathlon while Barwise placed second behind conference competitor Maine’s Jesse Labreck in the women’s heptathlon. She earned silver with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 4,619 points. Haigh and Barwise both rank second in the conference standings. The men’s squad then competed at Northeastern’s Solomon Invitational on April 17. Junior Dan Withrow (Dedham, Mass.) led the Terriers, claiming a pair of titles at the meet. Withrow won the shot put (15.25m) and the discus throw (48.32m). He again qualified for the IC4A championship in the discus throw. On the track, the men captured six titles. Junior Max Esposito (Holliston, Mass.) won the 400m (50.79) while sophomore Billy Whelan (Farmingville, N.Y.) placed first in the 800m (1:57.94). Senior Mark Mazzochette (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and juniors Ken Haltom (Memphis, Tenn.) and Eric Ashe (Hanson, Mass.) also earned individual titles, crossing the finish line in first in the 400m hurdles (55.86), the 1,500m (3:59.92) and the 3,000m steeplechase (9:17.10), respectively. The men’s 4x400m relay teams also went 1-2 at the meet. The Boston U. women competed at the UConn Select Invitational on Saturday. Freshman Lauren Berg (Derry, N.H.) led the team with a first-place finish in the javelin throw (38.42m) while senior Edwina Clark (Sydney, Australia) posted a silver-medal finish in the long jump (5.42m). Junior Karly Neveu (Surrey, British Columbia) captured another top finish for the women in the field, placing third in the high jump (1.65m). On the track, sophomore Jackie Dim (Sicklerville, N.J.) claimed two top finishes for the Terriers, racing to third in both the 100m (12.17) and the 200m (24.85) while senior Sarah Mosser (East Aurora, N.Y.) earned bronze in the 800m (2:15.07). Both Boston U. squads next compete at the Penn Relays on April 22-24 and the Stonehill Invitational on April 23.

Hartford – The Hawk women finished third out of six teams at the Holy Cross Invitational on April 18 while the men placed sixth. Caitlin Hauswirth led the women, claiming the pole vault title after clearing a height of 3.04m. Freshman Brittney Lawson again improved on her school record in the hammer throw, tossing 46.18m for second overall in the event. In the triple jump, the Hawks went 2-3 with freshman Priscilla Appiagyei (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) taking second with a mark of 10.71m while sophomore Kristalena Lamore (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) placed third with a leap of 9.85m. Sophomore Miranda Wallace (Lisbon, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) and freshman Natalie Bonham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) claimed two more top-five finishes for Hartford in the field, claiming third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. On the track, senior Kaycee Martinez (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis Yarmouth Regional) earned silver in the 400m hurdles (1:05.55). On the men’s side, the 4x400m relay team raced to first in 3:21.85. Sophomore Anderson Emerole (Jamaica, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Math and Sciences) and junior Warren Lane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) also captured top finishes at the meet, going 2-3 in the 400m, respectively. Emerole also took home second in the 200m (22.82). Graduate student Mike DuPaul (East Haven, Conn./East Haven/Connecticut) rounded out the men’s top individual finishes, coming in second in the 800m (1:54.06). Hartford returns to action at the Penn Relays on April 22-24.

Maine – The Black Bear men won the Holy Cross Quad Meet on April 18 while the women placed second. Freshmen Jamie Ruginski and Justin Gagne (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) led the men, each earning a pair of victories at the meet. Ruginski won the long jump (6.89m) and the triple jump (14.31m) while Gagne placed first in the shot put (14.99m) and the discus throw (45.54m). The men earned three more titles at the meet. Senior Jhamal Fluellen (Lockport, N.Y./Syracuse) won the 100m (11.02) while classmate Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine/Portland) took home the title in the 400m (49.09) and freshman James Reed (Garmisch, Germany/Munich International) placed first in the 110m hurdles (14.99). Sophomore Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) led the women at the meet, winning the 5,000m in an ECAC-qualifying time of 16:24.13. Her time ranks her 17th in the East and is the top time posted by a conference competitor this season. Sophomore Jessica Bond (Namur, Quebec/Cegep de St. Jerome) also posted an ECAC-qualifying mark at the meet, placing first in the javelin throw (42.67m). Rounding out the Black Bear individual champions at the meet are sophomore Katherine McGeoghan (Agawam, Mass./Agawam), junior Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine/Lawrence) and Cearha Miller (Waldorf, Md./Oxon Hill), who won the high jump, 1,500m and 400m, respectively. Sophomore Jesse Labreck also competed in the Holy Cross Heptathlon, which she won with an ECAC-qualifying total of 4,922 points. The Black Bears next compete at the Penn Relays on April 22-24 and at New Hampshire on April 24 in their final meets before the America East Championship.

UMBC – The Retrievers competed at the Morgan State Legacy meet on April 16-17. Sophomore Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) led the women, breaking a school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.15. Colbert then finished third in the event finals. Senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) also picked up a top finish for the women, placing fourth in the 100m with an ECAC-qualifying time of 11.92. Foreman’s time is the top posted by a conference competitor this season. Junior Keith Onto (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro/St. Francis (PA)) led the men at the meet, taking home top honors in the decathlon with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 6,946 points. His mark ranks him in the top 30 nationally and, at this point in the season, provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championship. Onto, who is ranked 11th in the East, also tops the conference standings in the event. Senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) also earned a gold medal at the meet, winning the 110m hurdles with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.59. Freshman Evan Palmer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenandoah) and sophomore Sam Boimov claimed two more titles for the Retrievers, placing first in the discus throw (43.93m) and the 5,000m (16:00.25), respectively while freshmen Cameron McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) and TJ Cowing (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) garnered two silver medals for the squad, capturing second in the hammer throw (48.87m) and the 1,500m (4:04.49), respectively. The Retrievers return to action at the Penn Relays starting on Thursday, April 22.

New Hampshire – The Wildcats competed at the Larry Ellis Invite on April 16-17. Juniors Brice Paey and Michael Simon (Durham, Conn./Durham) each claimed a victory at the meet to lead the men. Paey won the shot put with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 17.84m while Simon placed first in the javelin with an IC4A-qualifying throw of 59.33m. Paey currently ranks in the top 30 nationally in the event, which at this time provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championship. Junior Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) claimed another top finish for the men in the field, garnering fourth in the hammer throw with an IC4A-qualifying toss of 60.34m. His mark is the top posted by a conference competitor this season and ranks him 46th in the nation. On the track, graduate student Matt O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase in 8:58.57. His time ranks him at 35th in the nation and is an NCAA Regional-qualifying time as well as an IC4A-qualifying mark. On the women’s side, three women earned titles, including senior Ashlee Lathrop, junior Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and sophomore Elizabeth Campbell (Colonia, N.J./Mt. St. Mary’s). Lathrop won the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 55.51m. Her mark is also the top posted by a conference thrower this year. Jesseman earned her title on the track, racing to victory in the 3,000m with a time of 10:13.27 while Campbell won the 1,500m in 4:41.05. Junior Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) garnered another top finish for the Wildcats, finishing second in the long jump (5.65m). The men compete at Holy Cross today (April 20) before both squads host their third Wildcat Invitational on April 24 in their final meet of the regular season.

Stony Brook - Sophomore Matthew Carnes (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) finished seventh in the javelin and sophomore Drew Dillingham (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) place ninth in the 1,500m to lead Stony Brook at the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend at Princeton University. Carnes recorded a 54.06m toss in the javelin while Dillingham posted a time of 4:02.17 in the 1,500m, a personal season best. Junior Shamell Forbes (Springfield Gardens, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) also ran a personal season-best, finishing 14th in the 800m (1:58.00) while classmate Brandon Leung (Rego Park, N.Y./Francis Lewis) took 16th (1:58.21). On the women’s side, sophomore Justine Noel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) narrowly missed out on beating her season-best time in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 2:20.61. The three-day Penn Relays are up next for both squads. Day one is scheduled for April 22.

Vermont – The Catamounts competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational over the weekend where freshman Debbie Isen (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) set a new school record in the 3,000m steeplechase. Isen finished 11th with a time of 10:58.12, beating the school record set by Heather Mitchell in 2007. Senior Jan Carlson (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro) also earned a top finish for the Vermont women, placing third in the 100m (12.34). Carlson also picked up an 11th-place finish in the 200m. In the distance events, sophomore Jen Magoon (Tilton, N.H./Winnisquam) placed fifth in the 1,500m (4:44.56) while senior Jacqui Norton (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) captured sixth in the 3,000m (10:46.38). In the field, junior Lindsey Guldin (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) captured seventh place in the hammer throw (46.68m) and was 10th in the discus (34.91m). Seniors Aaron Campbell (Bend, Ore./Summit) and Doug Maisey (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) led the men at the meet. Campbell won the 100m (10.90) and finished ninth in the 200m (22.04). Maisey earned another top finish for the Catamounts, placing fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase with an IC4A-qualifying time of 9:03.98. Freshman Ryan Sleeper (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) also earned a top five finish on the track, racing to second in the 1,500m (3:57.00). Up next for the Catamounts are the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on April 22-24. The prestigious meet will be the final tune-up for the America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are set for May 1-2 at the University of New Hampshire.
