CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- University of Harford women's basketball, Boston University and University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse, and Stony Brook University men's lacrosse all moved up in their respective national polls this week from where they stood just last week. Additionally, Binghamton's men's tennis team has cracked the national team rankings for the first time in program history.
The Hawks (27-3) will play Vermont this Saturday, March 13 for the 2010 America East Women's Basketball Championship and the Rowlands Trophy. The USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll ranked Hartford #19 in the country according to the latest poll released earlier today, while the Associated Press Poll released yesterday moved the Hawks up to #21 from #23 last week. The Hawks are on a 20-game winning streak since a loss to Marist in December and own the third-best scoring defense (50.0 pgg) in the nation. The Catamounts, who were ranked 24th in the AP Poll earlier this season, are still receiving two votes in the coaches poll.
The Boston University women's lacrosse team, which is 3-0 to open the season for the first time since 2005, knocked off #16 William & Mary last week to move up to #7 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and into the top 10 for the first time this season. The Terriers also moved up to #9 in the IWLCA coaches' poll as announced by the organization last night. UNH (4-0) is also making its way up the rankings, up to #12 in the Inside Lacrosse poll and #15 in the coaches poll. The Wildcats upended UMass and Colgate last week.
After its
victory over Towson, Stony Brook men's lacrosse (2-1) jumped to 15th in the USILA Poll after
being ranked 17th a week ago. The Seawolves fell one spot in the
Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to 18th. UMBC (1-2), which was edged by No. 4
North Carolina, 12-7, dropped out of the USILA rankings but is still
18th in the media poll.
Binghamton's men's tennis squad, which improved to 8-1 over the weekend, debuted at No. 63 in the Intercollegiate Tennins Association DI Men's National Team Rankings this week.
The University at Albany men's indoor track and field team, which took home its second straight IC4A Championship this past weekend, remained in the #3 spot in the Northeast regional rankings compiled by the USTFCCCA.
