CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Twelve men and 10 women have been named to the America East Indoor Track and Field All-Academic teams as released by the conference office Tuesday, March 9. Excelling both academically and athletically, these student-athletes represent the best of the America East Conference.

Due to a four-way tie for the 10th spot, 12 members, including three Indoor Champions and eight All-Conference Team selections, were named to the men’s All-Academic Team. Highlighting the list of All-Academic members are all conference selections and individual champions Valete Graham and Nasim Siddeeq, University at Albany seniors, and UMBC senior Dominic Devaud. Other All-Conference Team members earning All-Academic recognition are University of Maine senior Miles Bartlett, Binghamton University senior Chris Gaube, Albany sophomore Paul Lagno, Boston University senior Jan Bicanic, and University of New Hampshire junior Paul DeTurk. Stony Brook University junior Alex Felce, Albany junior Peter Rowell, UMBC junior Michael Christmas, and University of Vermont senior Jared Alvord round out the men’s All-Academic Team selections.

All 10 members of the women’s All-Academic team are All-Conference Team members, seven of whom claimed first-place finishes at the Championship. Among the individual champions was Albany senior Fey Adaramola, who claimed two titles at the meet, and Stony Brook junior Holly Van Dalen, who qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 5,000m. Other first-place finishers highlighting the All-Academic team are Maine sophomore Corey Conner, Albany senior Celine Cauderlier, Boston U. senior Sarah Mosser, UMBC senior Sara Parkinson and Binghamton senior Caitlin Wright.  Albany senior Laura Cummings, Boston U. junior Laura Martin and New Hampshire junior Kaitlyn Dugan round out the All-Academic team.

The All-Academic squads are a product of the June 2005 Athletics Director meetings, where faculty representatives and athletics directors from each of the conference’s nine member institutions decided to honor the league’s top student-athletes, whom excel equally in the classroom as they do on the playing field.

For the second straight year, America East will select the All-Academic teams using CoSIDA’s Academic All-America program as a model. Student-athletes worthy of consideration are nominated by member sports information directors and voted on by a committee of SIDs, academic advisors and faculty representatives from all nine member institutions.

All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time or are made up of 10 student-athletes for individual sports. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
