CAMBRIDE, Mass. -- Stony Brook University's Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) and Binghamton University's Matt Springer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) each recorded six goal games to earn America East men's lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively. The awards for the week ending March 7 were announced Monday afternoon.
McBride, a junior attack, tallied six of the Seawolves' scores in a 14-11 win over Towson Saturday. The preseason All-American, who also added an assist, tallied three of those scores during the decisive second quarter in which Stony Brook ran off six straight scores and outscored the Tigers 6-1 in the frame. McBride, who was also named Player of the Week on Feb. 22, leads the conference with 14 goals in just three games, which puts him second in the country (4.7 gpg).
Springer, a freshman attack, tallied eight goals in two games last week, including six in a 15-12 loss to Villanova Tuesday. Springer, who also dished out an assist, tied program records for goals (6) and points (7) in one game. He then added two more scores in 12-7 loss to Drexel Saturday, giving him three straight multi-goal games. Springer currently ranks second among league leaders with 12 goals and third with 13 points.
After its victory over Towson, Stony Brook jumped to 14th in the USILA Poll after being ranked 17th a week ago. The Seawolves fell one spot in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to 18th. UMBC, which was edged by No. 4 North Carolina, 12-7, dropped out of the USILA rankings but is still 18th in the media poll.

Albany (0-3) fell to No. 16 Delaware, 16-9, on March 6, as the Blue Hens used a seven-goal fourth quarter to pull away … the Great Danes are off to an 0-3 start for the third time as a Division I program … UAlbany is 14-35 all-time against national top-20 programs … sophomore Joe Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) equaled a career-high with five points (3 goals, 2 assists) … Brian Caufield (Bay Shore, N.Y. / West Islip) extended his point-scoring streak to 26 consecutive games, the nation’s fourth-longest mark … Caufield had one goal and two assists against Delaware … Kyle Brunk (Gilbert, Ariz. / Gilbert) established a career-high with three points (2 goals, 1 assist) … defenseman Mike Banks (Norwalk, Conn. / Brien McMahon) tallied his first goal as a collegian, and trimmed the Delaware lead to 10-8 with 10:54 left …Siena goalkeeper Brent Herbst deflected Caufield’s shot with five seconds remaining in his team’s 13-12 triumph on March 2 in the Great Danes’ home opener … UAlbany lost for the first time in the series since 1988, ending a 13-game win streak …the Great Danes are 27-23 at the Division I level in games decided by two goals or less … Dave Brock (Burlington, Ontario / Nelson) tied a career-high for the second straight game with three goals … junior Matt Johnson (Glenmont, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central) emerged on attack last week by combining for five points (3 goals, 2 assists) in two games … goalkeeper John Carroll (Nesconset, N.Y. / Smithtown East) has made double-figure saves nine times, including a season-high 14 at Delaware … UAlbany coach Scott Marr was a Delaware assistant from 1992-94.
Binghamton (1-3) freshman attack Matt Springer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) tied the school records for goals in a game (six) and total points in a game (seven) in Binghamton’s game at Villanova on March 2. The previous marks were both set by Stephen Smith (2004-08) … Springer followed up with two more goals against Drexel on Saturday. Springer currently leads the Bearcats with 12 goals and 13 points. He has recorded three consecutive multiple-goal games … after averaging just 5.00 goals per game through four games last season, Binghamton is already averaging 8.75 goals per game so far in 2010 … the Bearcats take on their second ranked team of the season this week when they head toCornell on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.
Hartford (1-2) scored its first victory of 2010 in a 13-11 defeat over Siena on Saturday afternoon at Schuart Stadium in Hofstra, N.Y. … Six different players scored for the Hawks who dominated the Saints in nearly every statistical category en route to their first win … The 13 goals were a team-high for Hartford, who outshot its opponents 38-32 … Sophomore Aidan Genik (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern C.I.), and rookies Rory Nunamacher (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) and Jared Franze (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) combined for 10 goals and 12 points while sophomore Scott Bement (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) picked up the win in goal … Genik notched a season-best five points on four goals and an assist while Nunamacher put up career numbers with three goals and one helper … Sophomore Carter Bender (Caledon, Ontario/Brewster Academy) and classmate Ryan Compitello (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) each contributed a pair of assists, extending their scoring streaks to 16 and 15 games, respectively … Siena jumped out to a 4-0 lead and didn’t trail in the contest until the 3:26 mark of the third period … Hartford chipped away at the Saints’ lead to take its first of the game ,a 9-8 advantage … The Hawks combined to outscore the Saints in the second and third quarters by a margin of 10-4 and buckled down defensively allowing just six Siena goals over the final three stanzas … Bement finished with six saves … Junior Tim Fallon (Lowell, Mass./Lawrence Academy) also had a strong game for Hartford, winning 17 of 27 face-offs while scooping up a game-best nine ground balls … Hartford has won the battle at the face-off X in every game this season … The Hawks travel to Brown on Wednesday, March 10 and play host to Bellarmine on Saturday, March 13.
18th-ranked UMBC (1-2) could not dig out of an early 4-0 deficit and fell to fourth-ranked North Carolina, 12-7, before 1,365 fans at UMBC Stadium… Junior midfielder Jamie Kimbles (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne’s) posted a career-best three goals and four points…Junior midfielder Bobby Stockton (Ponte Vedra, Fla./Nease) contributed two goals and an assist, senior midfielder Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) added three assists and senior attackman Matt Latham (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) scored a pair of goals…UMBC senior defenseman Matt Kresse (Seatuket, N.Y./Ward Melville) held UNC’s Gavin Petracca without a goal and was named the Retrievers’ America East Player of the Game… The Retrievers outshot the visitors, 34-33, however, UNC scored on four of its first five man-up opportunities of the day, while UMBC could only capitalized on two of nine total extra-man chances… UMBC never led, but was within two scores at halftime at 7-5… The visitors would go on a 4-1 run to start the second half, holding the Retrievers to a lone Latham goal over an 18-minute span and taking an 11-6 advantage early in the fourth quarter… Wimer did not score a goal for the second consecutive game, but his three assists extended the nation’s eighth-longest scoring streak to 22… His 109 career points are 24th on UMBC’s all-time scoring list… Wimer is on the Tewaaraton Watch List… Freshman goalkeeper (Arnold, Md./The Severn School) made six saves in his second career start… Senior LSM Mike Camardo (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) recorded another two caused turnovers and has eight on the season… He was in sixth place in the nation in that category entering play last week… The Retrievers take on a pair of national powers on the road this week, facing Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field on Tuesday, March 9 and traveling to Princeton to take on the Tigers on Saturday, March 12.
#20/17 Stony Brook (2-1) held on for a 14-11 victory over rv/- Towson, 14-11, on Saturday… Junior Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) had a game-high six goals, three in a decisive 6-1 second quarter, to lead Stony Brook… Junior Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) added three goals and two assists for the Seawolves, who faced the Tigers for the first time in school history… McBride, who was held scoreless against Virginia last week, tallied his 100th career goal on Saturday… After a 3-3 first quarter, Stony Brook opened up a six-goal lead. Four different players scored for the Seawolves, aided by three from McBride, who's now scored four or more goals for the 12th time in his illustrious career… Crowley's ninth of the season gave the Seawolves' their third six-goal advantage of the game, but Towson rallied, scoring four unanswered goals, making it a two-goal game, 12-10. However junior Adam Rand (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme), who won 16-of-27 faceoffs, keyed the next two Seawolves' goals… Senior Steven Waldeck (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur), who scored his second goal of the season, led the team with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Rand tallied six ground balls and senior Chris Gignilliat (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) added four ground balls. Senior Charlie Paar (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made eight saves to pick up his second victory of the year… Stony Brook takes on its second straight CAA opponent as it travels to face #14/13 Delaware next Saturday at 1 pm.
Vermont (0-4) could not hold on to a pair of fourth quarter leads in an 11-10 loss at Colgate and a 13-11 loss to Marist at Moulton Winder Field last week … Junior Liam Thomas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) scored a career high five goals in the loss against the Raiders and had seven goals in the two games … Freshman Drew Philie (Sandwich, Mass./Deerfield Academy) recorded four goals against the Red Foxes and had five goals on the week … Philie leads the team with 12 points on the season … Freshman Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) had seven points on the week … Sophomore Alex Plavner (Arnold, Md./Severn School) made 19 saves in the two games … Sophomore Max Gradinger (Rancho Sante Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) had six ground balls against the Red Foxes … Vermont visits VMI on Saturday at 1 p.m.
