CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- A pair of Black Bears took home the America East baseball player and rookie of the week from their successful trip to Florida, while Stony Brook sophomore Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif./Crespi Carmelite) put up an effort worthy of his first pitcher of the week award of the 2010 season. Maine sophomore center fielder Taylor Lewis (Montville, Conn./Montville) earned the player of the week award, while teammate Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) was the recipient of the rookie of the week honor.
Taylor led Maine to a 3-1 week with a .750 (12-for-16) batting average with 10 runs scored, nine runs batted in, two triples and a home run. The sophomore was 5-for-5 with five runs scored and five RBI in Maine's 18-8 win over Penn on Sunday. He tied a school record with two triples in that one game. He also homered against Penn. Earlier in the week, the outfielder batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks against Valparaiso. He drew two more walks, for four total on the week, on Thursday against St. Bonaventure. In Saturday's win over Rhode Island in 11 innings, Taylor went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base. For the week, Taylor also finished with a .800 on-base percentage and a 1.188 slugging percentage.
In a 3-2 win over Akron in Saturday's season opener for the Seawolves, sophomore righty Tyler Johnson went 7.1 innings and picked up his first victory. The all-rookie selection a year ago struck out a career-best 10 opposing batters during his start, allowing just two hits and two runs for a 2.45 ERA last week.
Fransoso hit .529 on the week with six runs scored and five RBI for the Black Bears. He was 5-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI in Maine's game against St. Bonaventure. The rookie finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI in Maine's 16-8 win over Valparaiso earlier in the week. He belted his first career home run in the game. For the week, Fransoso struck out just one time in 17 at-bats, drawing six walks and finished with a .652 on-base percentage and a .765 slugging percentage.

reliever Brian Gauthier (Ghent,

earned run... Senior Pete Eichner (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) recorded three hits
in the game... The Great Danes return to action over the weekend with a four-game

The Bearcats split two games with the SEC member Volunteers but dropped
a pair to Kennesaw

over the weekend but its pitching ERA ballooned to 9.53... Against Tennessee, BU snapped a
2-2 tie with four runs in the eighth inning - two on a blast from junior
outfielder Corey Taylor (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal)... Junior outfielder Peter
Bregartner (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip)
led the offense with a .462 average and six RBI in the four games. Bregartner belted two home runs and had a
1.077 slugging percentage over the weekend... Sophomore first baseman Dave
Ciocchi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) collected four more RBI and leads
the team with eight RBI in seven games... Senior outfielder Joe Charron
(Schaghticoke, N.Y./La Salle Institute) went 8-for-18 (.444) to raise his
season average to .448... Junior lefty James Giulietti (Plainview,
N.Y./Plainview-JFK) kept Tennessee
at bay in his start, going 5.1 innings and scattering seven hits and one
run. Giulietti departed on a game pitch
count and didn't get a decision but lowered his season ERA to 1.74 after two
starts... Sophomore reliever Alex Adami (Thornwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) struck out
three in the ninth inning, including the final Volunteer hitter - a first team
All-SEC and Team USA
national team member - with the bases loaded to preserve the win.

State on Wednesday, March 10. The Hawks will travel to New Britain for
a 3 p.m. contest.
The University of Maine baseball team (4-6, 0-0
AE) went 3-1 on the week... Maine senior pitcher Justin Latta (Lubbock,
Texas / Midland College) picked up all three wins for the Black Bears in
relief... Had 13 strikeouts... Latta already has more appearances, wins and
strikeouts than he did all of last season... Latta has appeared in seven of
Maine's 10 games this season... Sophomore centerfielder Taylor Lewis (Montville,
