Stony Brook Outlasts Albany to Advance to First Semi Since 2004

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Tommy Brenton posted a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds and Stony Brook beat Albany 68-59 on Saturday in the first round of the America East Championship presented by Newman's Own.

The top-seeded Seawolves (22-8) advance to the semifinals against winner of Saturday's second game between No. 4 Boston University-No. 5 Hartford. A Stony Brook win next round would have the Seawolves, the regular season champions, hosting the league championship game next Saturday.

Chris Martin added 15 points and conference Player of the Year Muhammad El-Amin and Bryan Dougher added 12 points apiece for the Seawolves. Brenton, the league's rebound leader who was named second team All-Conference, recorded his seventh double-double of the season.

Albany (7-25) went 10:15 between field goals as Stony Brook opened a 16-point lead en route to its third win of the season over the Great Danes.

Boston University Routs Hartford With Barrage of Three-Pointers

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Jake O'Brien scored 28 points and Corey Lowe added 26 to pace Boston University to an 87-46 rout of Hartford in the first round of the America East Championship presented by Newman's Own on Saturday.

The fourth-seeded Terriers (18-12) advance to Sunday's semifinal game against No. 1 Stony Brook, 68-59 winners over Albany. Boston U. was swept by Stony Brook in the season series.

The 41-point final margin was the second-largest ever in an America East tournament game. The Terriers, tying a conference tournament record with 14 3-pointers, trailed only once -- 3-0 -- en route to their fifth straight win, and third against Hartford (8-22) this season.

The Terriers were 14-for-26 from 3-point range, with Lowe and O'Brien combining to go 10-for-13. John Holland added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Terriers, who led by as many as 45. Joe Zeglinski paced the Hawks with 11 points.
