CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore attack Aidan Genik (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern C.I.) led Hartford to a win last week to earn his first career America East men's lacrosse Player of the Week honor, while University at Albany's Matt Mackenzie (Stony Plain, Alberta, The Hill Academy) earned Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards for the week ending March 21 were announced Monday afternoon.
Genik tallied four goals in Hartford’s 10-6 defeat of the Holy Cross Crusaders on Wednesday. The sophomore attack scored twice in each half and helped stake the Hawks to a 6-3 halftime lead. Hartford's lead was cut to one in the third quarter but Genik scored twice in a stretch of five answered goals for Hawks, which sealed the outcome. Genik ranks third among league leaders with 18 goals and fifth with 21 points.
Mackenzie scored his first career goal Saturday as Albany was edged, 13-11, by #12 Drexel. The score came with 6:05 left in the second quarter on a give-and-go with Brian Caufield after Mackenzie won the face-off. The freshman midfielder picked up a career-high nine ground balls and won 13 of 21 draws. Mackenzie has a .472 face-off percentage on season (59-125) and leads Albany in ground balls (22) and has three points (1 goals, 2 assists).
After being edged by Denver, 13-12, on Saturday, Stony Brook fell to 17th in both the USILA and Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Polls after being ranked 12th and 15, respectively last week. The Seawolves host No. 9/7 Cornell on Wednesday.

UMBC (1-5) sophomore attackman Shane Ryznar (Crofton ,Md./DeMatha) scored four goals, but the host Retrievers scored on only three of 20 first half shots and fell to fourth-ranked Maryland (5-0), 13-7, before 2,670 sun-drenched fans at UMBC Stadium…

Stafford) tied a career-high with three goals… Stony Brook's defense was outstanding, limiting the Red Storm scoreless in the second and third quarter, respectively. Senior Charlie Paar (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made 13 saves before leaving the game after three quarters… Crowley and Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) each scored three goals but it was not enough as Denver rallied to top Stony Brook, 13-12… Denver rallied for a 12-8 deficit to score five straight in the fourth quarter… The Seawolves host #7/9 Cornell on Tuesday night and close out non-conference play at Bryant on Saturday afternoon.
