CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Stony Brook University's Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) and Binghamton University's Matt Springer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) have taken home America East weekly men's lacrosse honors. McBride earned his third Player of the Week award of the season, while Springer took home his second straight Rookie of the Week honor. The awards for the week ending March 14 were announced Monday afternoon.
McBride, a junior attack, tallied seven goals and an assist in Stony Brook's 16-12 win at No. 14 Delaware Saturday. The Seawolves trailed 4-1 after one quarter but outscored the Blue Hens 9-2 in the second frame behind four goals from McBride. He ranks among national leaders with 21 scores in just four games and has 107 career goals in only 34 games.
Springer, a freshman attack, had four goals and picked up four ground balls in the Bearcats' 15-9 win over Marist Saturday. He also scored once in a loss to No. 8 Cornell Tuesday and has 17 scores this season, good for second among league leaders.
With its win over Delaware, Stony Brook jumped to 12th in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and 15th in the USILA Coaches' Poll after being ranked 15th and 18th, respectively, a week ago. UMBC is receiving votes in the Nike Poll.

Albany (0-5) has opened with five consecutive losses for the second time in the last three years … No. 19 Massachusetts pulled away in the fourth quarter for an 11-6 victory on March 9 … the Great Danes are 14-36 all-time vs. national top-20 programs … Ohio State also posted an 11-6 win over UAlbany with a five-goal third quarter on March 13 … the Great Danes have lost six in a row on the road, dating back to last season, to match the program’s longest Division I away loss streak … Joe Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) has a 19-game scoring streak after netting three goals at Ohio State … Resetarits has accounted for three-plus 14 times as a collegian …Brian Caufield (Bay Shore, N.Y. / West Islip) had his 26-game scoring streak stopped at UMass … Caufield came back with a season-high three assists at Ohio State … the junior climbed into a tie for eighth in career assists (56) with Merrick Thomson ’07 and Jordan Levine ’08 … Thomson, a former All-America attackman, was recently named to the Team Canada roster for the 2010 FIL World Championships … goalkeeper John Carroll (Nesconset, N.Y. / Smithtown East) had 14 of his career-high 19 saves in the first half at UMass … Carroll’s 19 saves tied the seventh-highest single-game total in the program’s Division I history … Carroll has made double-figure stops on 11 occasions as a collegian …defensive midfielder Mike Finnegan (Bay Shore, N.Y. / West Islip) scored his first point at the collegiate level with an assist in the first quarter at UMass …Derek Kreuzer (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) scored a pair at UMass, his sixth career game with multiple goals …defenseman Mark Kelly (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) recorded career-highs in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (4) at UMass.
Binghamton (2-4) broke out of its four-game losing streak with a 15-9 win at Marist on Saturday. The 15 goals is the highest recorded by Binghamton since its 16-8 win at Hartford on April 1, 2006. Furthermore, Saturday's game against the Red Foxes marked the first time in school history that three Bearcat players recorded hat tricks in the same game … senior attack Jeff Rurey (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and freshman attack Matt Springer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) each scored a game-high four goals and senior midfielder Steve Carlson (Penn Yan, N.Y./Pen Yan) added three goals against Marist … In his past four games, Springer has netted 13 goals. He has scored in all six of Binghamton’s game this season and leads the squad with 17 goals so far this year. Including the game against Marist, Springer now has a pair of hat tricks … sophomore faceoff specialist Jeff Donigan (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneatles) won 24 of the 27 faceoffs. In the process, he broke the school record of 19 faceoff wins, set by J.P. Wioncek against Sacred Heart on March 18, 2006. In addition, Donigan's .889 faceoff win percentage broke Wioncek's .863 mark (which he also set in the game against Sacred Heart four years ago).
Hartford (1-4) dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Brown and Bellarmine … Both games were decided by a single goal …Hartford fell at Brown, 13-12, in overtime before suffering an 8-7 home loss to Bellarmine …. Three of the Hawks’ four losses have been decided by two goals or less … In a battle that saw the lead change hands four times, Hartford could not hold on to a fourth quarter lead against the Bears … The Hawks held a commanding 5-2 first quarter lead before Brown roared back with a five-goal second stanza, sending Hartford into the halftime break trailing 7-6 … Hartford outscored its opponents 5-2 in the third but only managed one goal in the final quarter … Aidan Genik (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern C.I.) led Hartford with a season-best six points on four goals and two assists … On Saturday, the Hawks clawed back from a 3-0 deficit against Bellarmine to tie the score at 4-4 at the half … Hartford earned its only lead of the game with a 7-6 mark just minutes into the final quarter however the lead was short lived as the Knights tied the score mid-way through the period and followed with the game-winner with 3:39 remaining … The match-up served as a homecoming for Bellarmine head coach Jack McGetrick, who served 11 years as the Hawks’ head coach and is the all-time winningest coach in the program’s history … $2,362 was donated to the “Everyone Works for Jack” fund … Tim Fallon (Lowell, Mass./Lawrence Academy) has dominated at the face-off X winning 78 of 128 duels … As of Monday, the junior was the nation’s leader in ground balls averaging 9.33 per game … Hartford’s lone game of the week is a St. Patrick’s Day match-up against the Holy Cross Crusaders … Opening face-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
UMBC (1-4) competed against two of the finest collegiate programs in the country in a span of five days last week, and dropped decisions at No. 7 Johns Hopkins and at No. 6 Princeton… In the Retrievers’ 16-10 loss at Hopkins on Tuesday, the visitors fell behind, 10-6, early in the third quarter, but went on a 3-0 run to trim the deficit to 10-9 on goals by sophomore attackman Shane Ryznar (Crofton, Md./DeMatha), junior midfielder Bobby Stockton (Ponte Vedra, Fla./Nease) and sophomore attackman Rob Grimm (Black River, N.Y./Carthage) in a four-minute span… But UMBC lost the ensuing face-off and Hopkins’ Zach Palmer would eventually score at the 4:27 mark to start a 5-0 surge to put the Blue Jays in command… The ten goals tied a season high for UMBC, as they also scored 10 goals in the opening 11-10 triple overtime loss to Delaware on Feb. 20… Stockton tied his career high with three goals and four points in the game… Ryznar made his first collegiate start on attack, as did sophomore goalkeeper Brian McCullough (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City)… McCullough made a team season-best eight saves and earned another start at Princeton on Saturday… The sixth-ranked Tigers (4-0) defeated UMBC, 10-5, in miserable conditions at the Class of 1952 Stadium… The Retrievers lost all seven first-half draws and fell behind, 5-1, after one quarter… McCullough allowed five scores and recorded two saves in the first 15 minutes and was replaced by senior Kevin Kohri (Sykesville, Md./Century), who played the final 45 minutes for UMBC and made six saves, allowing five Tiger goals… UMBC senior midfielder Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) extended his point-scoring streak to 24 with a goal and an assist to lead the Retrievers… Wimer has moved into the top 20 in all-time scoring at UMBC with 113 points (58-55-113)… senior midfielder Maxx Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends) added two assists for UMBC… The entire game was played in torrential rains and sustained winds of 25 miles per hour with much higher gusts… Standing water appeared on the turf in the second half… Senior LSM Mike Camardo (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) recorded six ground balls, four caused turnovers and scored his sixth career goal in the game… Camardo has 17 caused turnovers through five games this season… This is UMBC’s first three-game losing streak since 2006, when they dropped consecutive outings to No. 7 Johns Hopkins, No. 20 Penn, and No. 1 Maryland… The Retrievers host their in-state rivals, the fifth-ranked Maryland Terrapins on Saturday in a nationally-televised game (ESPNU)… UMBC has won three in a row in the series after dropping eight in a row from 2000-2007.

Stafford) each had two goals and two assists… Senior Steven Waldeck (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) totaled game-highs of nine ground balls and three caused turnovers… Stony Brook, now ranked 12th in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll and 15th in the USILA Coaches Poll, takes on St. John’s Tuesday night and Denver on Saturday afternoon.
Vermont (1-4) picked up their first win of the season in a come-from-behind 12-8 victory against Virginia Military Institute on Saturday … Vermont scored seven unanswered goals to finish the game … Sophomore Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif./Coronado HS) had three goals and two assists for five points in the win … Worley is second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 15 points … Freshman Drew Philie (Sandwich, Mass./Deerfield Academy) added three goals and an assist … He leads the team in scoring with 16 points (10g, 6a) … Sophomore goalie Dave Barton (Hanover, Mass./Boston College HS) made seven saves in the final 41:16 of the game against the Keydets to record the first win of his career … Sophomore Cal Case (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS) added three points (1g, 2a) and freshman Rory O’Connor (Haverford, Pa./Haverford School) scored twice … Vermont travels to No. 1 Virginia on Tuesday at 7 p.m. … It’s a homecoming for Vermont head coach Ryan Curtis, who was named the NCAA Defenseman of the Year while winning a national championship with the Cavaliers as a player in 1999 … Vermont then visits St. John’s on Saturday at 1 p.m.
