CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- With the Great Danes matching its best-ever Division I start, a pair of Albany women's lacrosse players have been honored by the conference office for the week ending March 14. Seniors Kayla Best (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) and Ashley Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) were tabbed the league's player and defensive player of the week. Stony Brook freshman Kerry Kresse (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) became the third different Seawolf honored this season after she picked up the rookie of the week award.

Best finished the week with 10 goals in two games in addition to three ground balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover. She scored four of her season-high five goals in the second half of a 17-4 win over Canisius on Sunday. Earlier in the week, Best netted three of her five goals in the first half of an 18-2 victory at Siena. She added a season-high three draw controls as well. The senior midfielder recorded a .714 shooting percentage on the week by making 10-of-14 attempts on the cage. Best also extended her goal-scoring streak to 50 games, second longest in the nation.

Ross, in her first year as a starting lacrosse goalkeeper after a successful career with the Albany field hockey program, stopped 15 shots last week with a save percentage of .714. She also had a 3.00 GAA last week and compiled five ground balls. Ross equalled her career high with 11 saves in a 17-4 win over Canisius, included five stopped free-position shots. Two of those came in the first half when the game was still closely contested with Albany holding just a 5-3 halftime lead. In four starts this season, Ross has a .569 save percentage and a 6.52 GAA.

Kresse totaled three points on one goal and two assists in last week's 12-6 win over Massachusetts, more than doubling her season points total. Her first collegiate goal came late in the first half to break a 2-2 tie with the Minutewomen. Both of Kresse's helpers came in the second half to help the Seawolves outscore the visitors, 9-3 over the final 30 minutes after the first half ended in a 3-3 deadlock.
