Masters Finishes Fifth At NCAAs in Mile Run; Van Dalen Places 14th in 5,000m

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - University of Maine sophomore Riley Masters (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) and Stony Brook University junior Holly Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand/Wanganui Collegiate) wrapped up their indoor track and field seasons with top finishes in the finals of the NCAA championship meet hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville on Friday and Saturday.

Masters earned the top finish by an America East performer at the meet, claiming fifth in the men's mile run with a time of 4:04.29. He ran two sub-four minute miles to qualify for the NCAA meet. Masters' fifth-place finish guarantees him All-American status.

Van Dalen, who broke the school record in the women's 5,000m to qualify for the NCAA championship, placed 14th with a time of 16:39.37. Van Dalen was also named the USTFCCCA Northeast Track Athlete of the Year.

Binghamton University junior Erik van Ingen (Marathon, N.Y./Marathon) just missed qualifying for the finals of the mile run, placing seventh in his preliminary heat with a time of 4:03.73.

The outdoor track and field Performer of the Week awards begin next Tuesday, March 23.
