Swimming and Diving All Conference Teams
BOSTON, Mass. - The UMBC men claimed their seventh straight title while the Boston University women captured their second at the 2010 Swimming and Diving Championship.
The Retriever men won with 926.5 points. Junior Brad Reitz (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) claimed UMBC's final title of the meet, winning the 200 fly in 1:47.81.
The Terrier men (848.5 points) came in second behind UMBC led by seniors Arik Seiler (Portland, Maine/Deering), Tyson Slesnick (Austin, Texas/Rutgers) and junior Tanner Knorr (San Diego, Calif./Valhalla). Seiler captured 50 points for the squad and swam the opening leg of the 400 free relay that ended the weekend with a win for the Terriers. Seiler also compiled the highest career point total (195) of any senior male athlete to earn the Coaches' Award.
Slesnick claimed two individual titles at the meet, including the 1650 free today. Slesnick garnered the Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet award while Knorr, who swept the diving events, earned the Men's Most Outstanding Diver honor.
Binghamton University (586), Stony Brook University (419) and University of Maine (258) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Freshman Ivan Kopas (Kikinda, Serbia/Technical School Kikinda) proved to be an asset to the Stony Brook squad, touching first in both the 100 and 200 back. In both events, the rookie is now the America East record-holder. Kopas also set a new pool record in the 200 back to capture the Men's Rookie of the Meet accolade.
The Terrier women captured 765 points on their way to the championship title led by a strong performance from freshman diver Melinda Matyas (Budapest, Hungary/Eotvos Jozsef Gimnazium). Matyas, who will be competing at the Zone championships this month, swept the board events to garner the Women's Most Outstanding Diver accolade.
The Retriever women claimed a second-place finish with 681 points. UMBC freshman Tara Morrissette (Somersworth, N.H./Saint Thomas Aquinas) finished third in both the 200 and 400 IM to earn the Women's Most Outstanding Rookie of the Meet award.
University of New Hampshire (601) and University of Vermont (459) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, followed by Stony Brook (331.5), Binghamton (324.5), and Maine (209).
Junior Amy Perrault (Kirkland Lake, Ontario/Ecole Catholique) led the Wildcat squad to a third-place finish, capturing three individual titles this weekend. Perrault claimed her third victory today in the 200 back in an America East record time of 1:58.59 to earn the Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet award.
Catamount senior Colleen Clark (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) tallied 42 points during the meet and compiled the highest career point total of any female senior athlete to garner the Coaches' Award.
