Women's Basketball: #25 Hartford Earns First-Ever National Ranking, Travels To Face Maine Tonight

Tuesday, February 9
*#25 Hartford at Maine    7 p.m.

  • Hartford became the second America team to earn a national ranking this season, entering the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll in the 25th slot earlier today. It is the program's first-ever national ranking.
  • Hawk center Diana Delva leads the country in field-goal percentage with a mark of 67%. She boasts a career efficiency of 61.5% (493-801).
  • Hartford has held AE opponents below 40 points five times this season, including a 76-39 win against Maine earlier this season in West Hartford. The Hawks have a league-best scoring defense of 51.7 ppg.
  • Maine freshman Katelyn Vanderhoff is hot right now, averaging 12 ppg over the last three games, up from her season average of 6.4 ppg.

*at UMBC 57, Maine 45

  • The Retrievers picked up their first home win at the RAC since December 2 against Navy. To get the win, UMBC shot 50% from the field, its second-highest mark of the season, and went a perfect 11-for-11 from the foul line.
  • UMBC sophomores Topé Obajolu and Katie Brooks each scored a game-high 16 points, while senior Carlee Cassidy netted 15.
  • Maine rookie Katelyn Vanderhoff led the team in scoring for the third straight game with 14 points. Junior Tanna Ross played a season-high 21 minutes after sitting out much of the season recovering from injury.


Saturday, February 6
*at Stony Brook 74, Binghamton 60

  • Stony Brook junior Kirsten Jeter netted a game-high 17 points, while senior Joia Daniels and junior Misha Horsey each scored 10 points.
  • The Seawolves, who outrebounded the Bearcats 47-33, were led on the glass by Tamiel Murray and Destiny Jacobs, each with 11 rebounds.
  • Binghamton sophomore Andrea Holmes led the way for the visitors with 15 points as well as eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.


*at Hartford 65, New Hampshire 35

  • Hartford senior center Diana Delva finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while junior Mary Silvia matched her offensive output of 14 points on 6-of-10 field-goal shooting.
  • The Hawks extended their winning streak to 13 games and moved to 11-0 in America East play.
  • UNH senior forward Candace Williams was the only Wildcat in double-figures with 10 points. She also registered a team-high eight rebounds.


*Vermont 72, at Albany 63 (TW3)

  • The Catamounts were down by one at the half, but clamped down on defense in the second stanza, holding the Great Danes to 29.6% field goal shooting in the final 20 minutes.
  • Vermont senior Courtnay Pilypaitis completed a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. She also added six assists, a block and two steals. Five of her seven field goals were from long distance.
  • Three Great Danes finished in double-figured scoring, including rookie Julie Forster who recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds.
