Day 3 Results
BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston University women and the UMBC men remain in first after day three of the America East Swimming and Diving Championship. In the evening session, eight conference records fell and four swimmers posted NCAAB-qualifying marks.
Placing second behind the Terrier women is UMBC with 463 points. University of New Hampshire (406 points) and University of Vermont (295) are third and fourth after day three followed by Stony Brook University (226.5), Binghamton University (216.5) and University of Maine (146).
Second on the men's side is Boston U. with 555.5 points followed by Binghamton (439 points), Stony Brook (310) and Maine (144), ranking third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Terriers swept both the 400 IM and the 100 fly finals to begin the evening session. Sophomore Amanda Schmitz (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) claimed the women's 400 IM, setting a new America East record of 4:17.82 while senior Tyson Slesnick (Austin, Texas/Rutgers) won the men's event in a new pool and conference record time of 3:53.16. Both swimmers' marks are NCAA consideration times.
Senior Emily Munday (Butte, Mont./Butte) claimed her third straight conference title in the 100 fly in an NCAAB-qualifying time of 53.83, which is also a new America East record. Junior Matthew Rickett (Portland, Maine/Deering) posted an NCAA consideration time of 47.58 in the men's event.
UMBC then swept the 200 free events with senior Sam Maccherola (Woolford, Md./South Carroll/Tennessee) touching first in the women's event with an NCAAB-qualifying time of 1:48.63 while junior Eric Jones (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) placed first in the men's event in 1:38.68.
Junior Allison Nahin (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) claimed New Hampshire's first medal of the day, winning the women's 100 breast. Nahin's time of 1:03.08 in her preliminary race set a new conference record.
UMBC senior Matt Mattingly (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) claimed his second individual title of the meet, tying for first with Boston U. junior Kyle Ernst (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) in the men's 100 breast. Mattingly posted a new pool and conference record time of 55.21 in the preliminary round.
New Hampshire junior Amy Perrault (Kirkland Lake, Ontario/Ecole Catholique) added to her title tally, claiming first in the 100 back. Perrault's time in the preliminary race was a new America East record. Freshman Ivan Kopas (Kikinda, SerbiaTechnical School Kikinda) won the men's race and captured the first Seawolf victory of the meet. The rookie is now the America East record-holder with a time of 49.58.
Terrier junior Tanner Knorr (San Diego, Calif./Valhalla) swept the diving events, winning the men's three-meter with a score of 625.45. Knorr won gold in the one-meter dive on Thursday.
In the final event of the evening, the New Hampshire women raced to another record-setting first-place finish. The Wildcats won the 400 medley relay with a new pool and conference record time of 3:44.72. The Boston U. men also ended the meet with a victory, touching first in the men's 400 medley relay.
