Kotsopoulos (Waterloo, Ontario) has been named to the 2009-10 ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-America® Women’s Basketball Team, as selected
by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The
organization made the announcement on Tuesday.
Kotsopoulos, who earned a spot on the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District I First Team for the second straight year earlier this season,
is just the third women's basketball to earn national Academic All-America
honors at Vermont and the first since Karalyn Church '00.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key
reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of
4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her
current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information
director.
Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic
All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II,
III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Kotospoulos is a business administration major at Vermont and boasts a
3.66 GPA. She was named both the 2008 and 2009 America East Women's
Basketball Scholar-Athlete and is a four-year Dean's List student.
A 2009 America East Preseason All-Conference selection, Kotsopoulos
leads the league in scoring at 17.8 points per game and ranks among the
league's top-10 in five other statistical categories. She ranks fifth in
scoring at UVM with 1,671 points, third in three-point field goals (176),
and third in steals (233) among the program's all-time leaders. She
recently became the third Catamount in the program's history to play over
4,000 minutes (4,057) and is second in games played (122).
She has helped the Catamounts register their third straight 20-win
season and UVM enters Tuesday's game at Stony Brook (7 p.m. – WVMT-620
AM/SportJuice.com) with a record of 22-5 overall and stands at 12-2 (second
place) in America East.
Last season Kotsopoulos helped Vermont win its first America East title
and make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2000. She earned a spot
on the America East All-Championship team after 17.3 points per game and
shooting 55.6 percent from three-point range in three games.
