Women's Basketball: With Under Three Weeks Until Tourney, Full Slate Of Games Scheduled

Every gameday throughout the 2009-10 season, America East will provide a women's basketball update that features notes on that day's matchups as well as recaps of the previous day's action. Saturday, February 13
*UMBC at New Hampshire    1 p.m.

  • UNH took the season's first meeting, 77-67, in Baltimore on January 16. Wildcat seniors Amy Simpson and Candace Williams netted 15 points apiece.
  • The Wildcats are on pace, as a team, to break the program's single-season block record of 117 set last season with 113 so far this season.
  • UMBC sophomore Topé Obajolu is second on the team in scoring during league contests, averaging 11.9 ppg. She also leads the team in rebounds (4.6 rpg) and blocks (26) against AE foes.

*Boston U. at Albany    2 p.m.

  • The Terriers won the last dog fight with the Great Danes, 71-56, at Case Gym. Four Terriers hit double-digit points, including three rookies (Alford, Moran and Sims).
  • Boston U.'s top three scorers are all underclassmen, including two freshmen and a sophomore.
  • Albany senior Charity Iromuanya is currently eighth in program history with exactly 200 steals in her career. She needs eight more to move into seventh.

*Vermont at Binghamton     2 p.m.

  • Vermont defeated Binghamton, 76-43, in the first meeting in Burlington this season. Catamount senior May Kotsopoulos scored a game-high 22 points.
  • When she gets into the game this afternoon, Vermont senior Courtnay Pilypaitis will have played in her school-record 123rd career game.
  • Binghamton leads the league in three-pointers per game. The Bearcats average 7.4 per game, one more than the second-place team.

*Maine at Stony Brook    4 p.m.

  • Seawolf junior Kirsten Jeter is just 16 points away from 1,000 for her career. She earned her 500th career rebound last time out.
  • Stony Brook won the January 16 meeting with Maine, 64-59, in Orono.
  • Maine sophomore Samantha Wheeler leads the Black Bears with 10.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

*at Albany 59, Stony Brook 52 (OT)   

  • The Seawolves led by five at the intermission, but the Great Danes rallied to force overtime, and then outscored the visitors 11-4 in the extra frame, to pull out their first conference win of 2010.
  • Albany rookie Ebone Henry scored a game and career-high 26 points on 8-for-14 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown.
  • Stony Brook junior Kirsten Jeter led the Seawolves with 19 points and 15 rebounds, along with two blocks and three steals.


*at Vermont 77, Boston U. 59 (WCAXtra) (WBCA Pink Zone)   

  • In front of a crowd of 1,864, the largest audience since senior day 2002, senior May Kotsopoulos scored a game-high 22 points. Fellow seniors Courtnay Pilypaitis and Alissa Sheftic each registered double-doubles.
  • The Catamounts had a strong effort at the charity stripe, going 25-of-30 from the line. Kotsopoulos set a new school record for single-game consecutive free throws with a 13-of-13 performance.
  • Four Terriers scored in double-digits, including sophomore Alex Young with a team-high 18. Classmate Caroline Stewart collected a team-best 10 boards.


*at Binghamton 70, UMBC 36 (TWCS)

  • Bearcat senior Erica Carter hit 4-of-6 three-point attempts to finish with a game-high 15 points. Junior Jackie Ward, sophomore Orla O'Reilly and senior Darryll Peterson finished with 14, 13 and 12 points, respectively.
  • Binghamton outrebounded UMBC, 47-32, while shooting 45.6% from the field. The Bearcats held the Retrievers to just 20.8% field-goal shooting.
  • UMBC sophomore Topé Obajolu was the lone Retriever in the double-figure scoring column, finishing with 11. Obajolu also recorded the Retrievers' lone block.


Tuesday, February 9
*#25 Hartford 59, at Maine 32

  • In their first game since entering the national polls earlier in the day, the Hawks cruised to their 14th straight win, shooting 48% in the first half.
  • Senior center Diana Delva led with team highs of 15 points, nine rebounds and three rejections. Classmate Erica Beverly blocked two shots, putting her in fifth all-time in conference history with 186 career blocks.
  • Maine sophomore forward Samantha Wheeler led the Black Bears with 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman Katelyn Vanderhoff registered five steals.
