Stony Brook 68, Fairleigh Dickinson 51- Box Score

  • Stony Brook put together an impressive defensive performance in its 68-51 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, limiting the Knights to just 34% shooting from the field
  • With the Seawolves having trouble scoring in the paint, sophomore guard Sam Landers provided a key boost with her shooting from the perimeter. Landers scored a team-high 14 points in 35 minutes of action.
  • Sophomore forward Gerda Gatling came off the bench to give Stony Brook a strong interior presence, scoring 10 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
  • The Seawolves close out their five-game homestand with a visit from Iona on Sunday, Dec. 5.

 

Upcoming Action

Friday, December 3
New Hampshire at Manhattan    7 p.m.

  • The Wildcats square off against their first MAAC opponent of the season. It is the third game of a five-game road trip that also sends UNH to Boston and Connecticut.
  • This road trip has meant the return of sophomore Abigail LaRosa, who sat out the entire 2009-10 season with injury. In limited minutes from off the bench in the last two games, LaRosa has six points, two steals, two assists and two boards.


Hartford at Harvard    7 p.m.

  • The Hawks return to the U.S. after a three-game trip in Mexico. They face a Crimson team which has already defeated Maine and Boston U. this year.
  • Hartford is a well-balanced team with five players averaging 6.0 ppg or more. Sophomore Alex Hall leads the pack with 8.4 ppg, while junior Illicia Mathis has come off the bench in all seven games to register 7.7 ppg.
  • As a team, Hartford is shooting .341 from long-range, third in the conference, as compared to .284 for seventh place last season.

Binghamton 63, Army 61 -- Box Score

  • Binghamton (3-3) outlasted Army at home in a game that featured 16 ties and a 12-point second-half comeback by Army that fell just short in the closing moments of the game.  
  • The score was tied, 40-40, with 17:47 remaining in the game when the Bearcats ripped off a 12-0 run over the next five minutes. Army came back to tie the game, 55-55, with 3:42 remaining.
  • Junior guard Andrea Holmes found forward Kara Elofson for what proved to be the game-winning basket, a layup with 21 seconds on the clock. Elofson scored 14 points on the night.
  • Holmes led the Bearcats with 18 points. Freshman guard Jasbriell Swain added 12 points and 11 rebounds to record a double-double.


Sacred Heart 61, Albany 52 -- Box Score

  • Albany (5-1) suffered its first loss under new head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, losing to Sacred Heart on the road, 61-52.
  • Sophomore guard Ebone Henry was the only Great Dane to reach double figures, scoring 16 points on 6-of-18 shooting.
  • Sophomore forward Julie Forster was solid on the glass, leading Albany with 11 rebounds. Forster also added six points, four assists, two steals and one block.


Rhode Island 58, Boston U. 56 -- Box Score

  • Boston U. (2-5) could not overcome a slow start offensively as the Terriers dropped a tight game at Rhode Island, 58-56.
  • The Terriers shot 26.5 percent from the floor in the first half, making just nine field goals before the break. The Terrier defense limited the Rams to nine field goals as well, but Rhode Island led at the half, 27-26, while shooting at a 40.9 percent clip.
  • Junior guard Alex Young again led the Terrier offense with 16 points. She was joined in twin figures by senior forward Kerry Cashman with 12 points and junior forward Caroline Stewart, who had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.


Kansas 126, Maine 63 -- Box Score

  • Maine (1-5) went on the road to face Big 12 opponent Kansas in the historic Allen Fieldhouse, but could not stop the Jayhawks' powerful offense.
  • Kansas scored 69 points in the first half while shooting an astounding 66.7 percent from the field. The Jayhawks hit 26-of-39 field goals before the break. Kansas went on to score 74 points in the paint compared to 24 for the Black Bears.
  • Maine took a while to get its offense going, making just nine field goals in the first half. However, the Black Bear attack improved after the break as Maine shot 53.3 percent from the field.
  • Tanna Ross had the hot hand for Maine. The senior guard poured in 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 7-of-12 from deep to pace the Black Bears.


Quinnipiac 76, Vermont 67 -- Box Score

  • Vermont (0-6) went on a 15-0 run over a three-minute span in the second half to cut a 23-point defecit to eight, but was unable to come all the way back on the road against the Bobcats.
  • Senior forward Tonya Young scored a career-high 29 points in just 20 minutes of play before fouling out. Young shot 11-of-16 from the field, including 2-of-3 from long range, and was perfect from the charity stripe, hitting all five of her free throws.
  • Sophomore guard Lauren Wheeler also reached a career high with 13 points.
  • The Catamounts racked up 20 assists on their 24 field goals. Sophomore guard Kristine Lalonde led the way, dishing out eight helpers.
