Sunday, December 12

Maine 74, Norfolk State 54- Box Score

  • Maine picked up its second straight victory, knocking off Norfolk State, 74-54.
  • The Black Bears received a huge boost off the bench from senior guard Terrance Mitchell, who scored a team-high 22 points in only 14 minutes of action.
  • Maine delivered a strong performance on the defensive end of the court, limiting Norfolk State to only 40% shooting from the field.
  • The Black Bears close out their two-game homestand with a visit from Colgate on Sunday, Dec. 19.

Vermont 75, Marist 67- Box Score

  • Vermont remained undefeated at Patrick Gymnasium, as the Catamounts pulled out an impressive 75-67 victory over Marist.
  • Freshman forward Brian Voelkel delivered the best performance of his young career, scoring a career-high 23 points and pulling down a career-high 16 boards in the win.
  • Although he battled foul trouble throughout the game, senior forward Evan Fjeld still gave the Catamounts a strong interior presence in the win. Fjeld scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in only 16 minutes of action.
  • The Catamounts begin a two-game road trip with a visit to Fairfield on Monday, Dec. 20.

Saturday, December 11
Binghamton 70, Manhattan 69 -- Box Score

  • Binghamton (2-6) ended a six-game skid as it topped Manhattan on the road, 70-69, thanks to a last-second basket from sophomore guard Jimmy Gray.
  • Gray converted a layup that proved to be the winning basket with 4.5 seconds remaining in the game on a pass from senior forward Greer Wright. Those basket delivered the only points of the contest for Gray.
  • Senior forward Mahamoud Jabbi led the Bearcats with 20 points and six rebounds. Senior forward Moussa Camara added 17 points off the bench.
  • Binghamton was hot from behind the arc in the first half, connecting on 9-of-16 three-point attempts before the break. The Bearcats shot 13-for-30 from long range in the game. Jabbi and Camara combined to shoot 9-for-14 from behind the arc.

 

Albany 64, Central Conn. State 63 -- Box Score

  • Albany (5-6) escaped with a one-point victory, 64-63, over Central Conn. State. The Great Danes held a 15-point halftime lead as they held on at the end of the game for the win, their fifth in eight games.
  • Senior guard Tim Ambrose hit a running jumper with 9.2 seconds remaining to give Albany a 62-60 advantage and freshman John Puk took a key charge with four seconds left to seal the outcome.
  • The Great Danes shot an even 50 percent for the field for the game, hitting 24-of-48 attempts from the field.
  • Ambrose led the way for Albany as he dropped 21 points. Sophomore guard Mike Black added 15 points.


Harvard 87, Boston U. 71 -- Box Score

  • Boston U. (4-7) had a difficult time keeping up with the Harvard offense as the Terriers lost ot the Crimson, 87-71.
  • The Crimson shot a staggering 71.4 percent from the field in the second half, hitting 15-of-21 attempts, including 6-of-10 from behind the arc. Harvard shot 54.0 percent from the field for the game.
  • The Terriers did a good job taking care of the ball, turning it over just eight times compared to Harvard's 10 giveaways.
  • Senior guard John Holland scored a team-high 21 points off the bench. Junior forward Jake O'Brien added 20 points while junior guard Darryl Partin dropped in 15 points. 


Monmouth 78, Hartford 74 (2 OT) -- Box Score

  • Hartford (2-8) squandered a 13-point halftime lead as they fell to Monmouth, 78-74, in double overtime.
  • The Hartford defense held Monmouth to 17.2 percent from the field in the first half, but allowed Monmouth to shoot at a 58.3 percent clip in the second half and overtime.
  • The Hawks had their own trouble shooting the ball, hitting just 14-of-47 three-point attempts and going 6-for-18 from the charity stripe. 
  • Senior guard Joe Zeglinski led the Hawks, pouring in a career-high 31 points. Senior guard Milton Burton also recorded a career-high, pulling down 16 rebounds. Burton also added 15 points.

 

Towson 86, UMBC 77 -- Box Score

  • UMBC (0-9) continued its struggles in the non-conference schedule, dropping a home contest to Towson, 86-77.
  • The Retrievers had a strong shooting night, hitting 29-of-58 attempts from the field, including 8-of-18 from three-point range. However, the Retrievers went 11-for-20 from the free-throw line while Towson went 26-for-32 from the charity stripe.
  • Junior guard Chris De La Rosa scored a game-high 23 points and dished out 10 assists.


Sacred Heart 75, Stony Brook 66 -- Box Score

  • Stony Brook (4-5) once again had trouble at home as the Seawolves fell to Sacred Heart, 75-66.
  • The Seawolves have now lost their last three home games. Stony Brook lost at home twice all of last season.
  • Junior guard Bryan Dougher led the Seawolves with 18 points, all coming on three-pointers. Dougher went 6-for-11 from long range while the rest of the team went 1-for-9.
