Inside Lacrosse's Faceoff Yearbook, which previews the 2011 season, is on the newsstand and several America East men's lacrosse standouts and one team are predicted to have outstanding years.
Stony Brook's men's lacrosse team, which came within one goal of reaching the NCAA Final Four last season, is ranked eighth in a pair of polls, both Inside Lacrosse's Media and Coaches' rankings. Additionally, six America East all-conference selections from 2010 were tabbed preseason All-Americans.
The Seawolves were tabbed eighth in the magazine's Faceoff Yearbook Poll and by a panel of Division I head coaches. Stony Brook, which returns the
bulk of last year's roster when it went 13-4 and reached the NCAA
quarterfinals for the first time in program history, also finished eighth in last season's final poll.
Four Seawolves were tabbed preseason All-Americans and were led by first-team choices Kevin Crowley and Adam Rand. Crowley, a Tewaaraton Award finalist a season ago, tied for first nationally with 77 points (4.53 ppg) while Rand ranked second in face-off percentage winning 61.6 percent of his draws.
Hartford's Tim Fallon, a faceoff specialist who earned All-America recognition last season, was a second-team preseason All-America choice. He led the nation in faceoff percentage (.622) last year. Stony Brook's Tom Compitello, an honorable mention All-American last year, picked up third-team preseason honors after ranking sixth nationally with 72 points.
Albany's Brian Caufield and Stony Brook's Jordan McBride were honorable mention selections. Caufield racked up 32 points in 11 games before suffering a season-ending injury while McBride tied for sixth nationally with 48 goals.
