December Opens With Five-Game Slate, Including Two Televised

Vermont at Quinnipiac (NESN)    3 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l WVMT Radio l

  • Both teams will be eager to pick up their first win of the season as both Quinnipiac and Vermont stand at 0-5 to start the 2010-11 season.
  • The Bobcats lead the series, 2-0, with the last meeting coming in 2008.
  • Sophomore Lauren Buschmann's double-double last time out against Dartmouth on Nov. 24 put her sixth in the league with 7.6 rpg, and 8.8 ppg.

Boston U. at Rhode Island    7 p.m. l Live Stats l WTBU Radio l

  • After breaking the school freshman scoring record last season, sophomore Chantell Alford is back at it, surpassing the 500 career point plateau last weekend in just her second year. She is averaging 12.0 ppg in 2010-11.
  • The Terriers took last year's meeting with the Rams, 47-35, at Case Gym. Mo Moran finished with eight points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals in that contest.

Army at Binghamton    7 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l WNBF Radio l

  • The Bearcats return home from Arizona to take on intrastate foe Army. Binghamton leads the all-time series, 2-1, but Army won the last meeting in 2003.
  • Junior guard Andrea Holmes, who ranks second in the league with 17.2 ppg, is a work horse, playing all but four minutes for the Bearcats this year.
  • Binghamton is outrebounding foes by a 6.6 margin this year, allowing just 33.6 rpg and grabbing 40.2 rpg.

Albany at Sacred Heart    7 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l Sacred Heart Radio l

  • The Great Danes are trying to make it six straight wins to open the season, extending their Division I-program best.
  • Albany is ninth in the country with a scoring defense of 47.2 ppg, while sophomore forward Julie Forster ranks 11th in Division I, and first in America East, with 11.4 rpg.

Maine at Kansas (Sunflower)    8 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l Maine Radio l

  • The Black Bears probably face their toughest challenge of the season against undefeated Kansas at the historic Allen Fieldhouse.
  • Guard Amber Smith (13.8 ppg) and forward Samantha Wheeler (12.8 ppg) rank in the league's top 10. Smith is one of two freshmen in the top five.
  • Wheeler is one of five players ranked top-10 in scoring and rebounding.

Tuesday, November 30
Monmouth 74, Stony Brook 60

  • After a string of strong offensive performances to start the season, Stony Brook struggled with its shooting and scored a season-low 60 points.
  • Senior forward Kirsten Jeter provided an impressive interior presence for the Seawolves, scoring a team-high 18 points and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
  • Despite playing only 13 minutes, sophomore center Taylor Burner came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field.


Monday, November 29
at Syracuse 87, New Hampshire 46   

  • Senior center Jill McDonald scored a team-high 11 points and ripped down seven boards. Junior forward Denise Beliveau added 10 points, reaching double figures for the second straight game.
  • Together, McDonald and Beliveau shot 8-for-15 from the field including 3-for-6 from long range. The rest of the Wildcats combined to shoot just 9-for-39 on its field goal attempts and 6-for-26 from three-point range. 
  • UNH, already among league team leaders for blocks, swatted away five more against the Orange. McDonald finished with two blocks, while Kelley Flynn came off the bench to reject three shots in 17 minutes.


Sunday, November 28
UMBC 75, Brown 55 (Iona Thanksgiving Classic)   

  • UMBC put an end to its three-game losing streak with a dominant 75-55 victory over Brown at the Iona Thanksgiving Classic.
  • Junior guard Michelle Kurowski put together her second straight impressive performance, netting a game-high 25 points and pulling down five rebounds in the win.
  • After struggling on the offensive end to start the season, senior guard/forward Meghan Colabella delivered her best game of the 2010-11 campaign. Colabella scored 10 points and grabbed 11 boards for the double-double.
