The
2010-11 America East men's basketball season is finally here! Four more teams
began their seasons today and all nine open this weekend.

Sunday, November 14
Maine at Maryland, 2 p.m. (Comcast Sport Net Mid Atlantic/NESN)
- Maine travels to Maryland for the meeting with the Terrapins Sunday. In its last meeting with an ACC team, the Black Bears upended Boston College, 52-50.
- Againt Utah Valley, Maine trailed for most of the second half before tying the game with four seconds remaining on a jumper by junior Raheem Singleton to force the overtime period.
- Troy Barnies led the Black Bears with 16 points on the night. Singleton scored seven points in overtime as the Black Bears ran out to a 10-point lead in the extra period.
Mount Ida at Stony Brook, 2 p.m.
- Stony Brook hosts the Mustangs in its home opener at Pritchard Gym, where the Seawolves went 12-1 last season.
- Against UConn, SBU trailed by just eight points at the break, but shot 5-33 from the field in the second half while the Huskies shot 45.7 percent after the intermission.
- The Seawolves made five three-pointers in the first half, but missed all six of their attempts from behind the arc in the second half.
- Bryan Dougher led SBU in scoring with 19 points in 28 minutes. Chris Martin added 12 points.
VMI at UMBC, 3 p.m.
- UMBC begins its 25th season of Division I basketball against VMI, which averaged 88.7 ppg last year.
- UMBC, which went just 4-26 last season, will need to improve their defense to turn things around in 2010-11. The Retrievers ranked last in America East last season by allowing 73.8 ppg.
- Junior guard Chris De La Rosa averaged 11.7 points and a league-best 5.1 assists in his first season at UMBC after transfering from Siena.
- Senior Justin Fry, who averaged 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds as a junior, is the team's last remaining link to the 2008 championship squad and returns after missing last season due to injury.

Vermont 80, Siena 76 -- Box Score
- Vermont opened its season with a win at Siena, ending a 38-game home winning streak for the Saints, a streak that was the second-longest such streak in the nation.
- The Catamounts were led by seniors Evan Fjeld and Joey Accaoui. Each scored 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field.
- Accaoui hit two free throws with five seconds remaining in the contest to put Vermont ahead, 80-76, sealing the win for the Catamounts.
- Vermont's bench came up big, outscoring the Siena bench, 45-16. The group was led by Accaoui and Sandro Carrisimo, who scored 13 points, including 3-for-3 from behind the arc.
Binghamton 62, Colgate 60 -- Box Score
- Senior forward Greer Wright scored 27 points, including a key free throw with 13 seconds remaining, to lead the Bearcats to a win in their opener on the road at Colgate.
- The Bearcats earned the win despite getting outrebounded, 36-20.
- As a team, Binghamton shot 83 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 15 of 18 attempts.
- Three Bearcats, Wright, Mahamoud Jabbi and Chretian Lukusa, played at least 38 minutes.
New Hampshire 79, Lesley 47 -- Box Score
- New Hampshire went on a 14-0 run early in the second half to puch a 10-point lead to a 24-point cushion, 53-29, with 13:48 to play in the game. The Wildcats went on a 15-3 run moments later to push the score to 72-36 with 7:26 remaining.
- New Hampshire senior guard Alvin Abreu led all scorers with 20 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field. He was also perfect from the line, hitting all eight of his free throws.
- Sophomore Ferg Myrick scored 18 points for New Hampshire while classmate Chandler Rhoads added 14 points.
Central Connecticut State 64, Hartford 62 -- Box Score
- Hartford lost a hard-fought battle against in-state rival Central Connecticut State in the Connecticut Six Challenge at Mohegan Sun.
- Hartford was led by senior forward Morgan Sabia, who poured in 23 points and grabbed 10 boards to pace the Hawks in both categories.
- The Hawks led by as much as 14 points with 6:33 to play in the first half. They led by as much as 12 points in the second half with 14:30 remaining in the game.
