The
2010-11 America East men's basketball season is finally here! Four more teams
begin their seasons today and all nine open this weekend.
America

Saturday, November 13
Lesley at New Hampshire, 1 p.m. -- Live Stats | Live Video
- The Wildcats open their season with Lesley at home, where they are 12-4 in their last 16 contests.
- UNH brings back nine letterwinners from a team that reached the semifinals of the America East Championship for the second straight season.
- Among the returnees is senior guard Alvin Abreu, who averaged 14.4 ppg and was a second-team All-America East selection.
- UNH ranked second in the league in scoring defense for the second straight year, allowing just 62.4 ppg.
Hartford vs. Central Conn. State, 6 p.m. (Conn. 6 Classic)
- For the
second straight Year the Hawks will open with the Connecticut Six
Classic. Last season, Hartford fell to Quinnipiac in its opener.
- John Gallagher begins his first season as Hartford head coach and takes over a program that won just eight games a year ago.
- Senior guard Joe Zeglinski, the conference's active leading scorer with 1,577 career points, ranked fourth among America East scoring leaders last season and earned second-team all-league honors.
- Hartford hopes to replicate its ball security in 2010-11. Last season, the Hawks led the league with a +1.87 turnover margin.
Binghamton at Colgate, 7 p.m. -- Live Stats | Live Video | Live Audio
- Binghamton won 13 games and finished fifth in the league standings a year ago after going 8-8 against conference foes.
- One of three first-team all-conference selections returning to his respective team this year, senior forward Greer Wright was one of only six players to rank among the league’s top-15 leaders in scoring (fifth - 15.0 ppg) and rebounding (11th - 6.0 rpg).
- Mahamoud Jabbi emerged as a presence last year by posting a league-best 2.1 blocks per game in league play and finishing third with 8.7 boards per.
- The Bearcats and Red Raiders last met on Dec. 5, 2007 with Colgate winning, 73-55.
Vermont at Siena, 7 p.m. -- Live Stats | Live Video | Live Audio
- Vermont tied a school record with 25 wins last season and won their fourth America East title since 2003.
- Senior forward Evan Fjeld is the lone returning starter from that team. He received third-team all-conference accolades after averaging 10.7 points and 6.1 rebounds last season.
- Junior transfer Matt Glass will be asked to contribute immediately after sitting out last season. Glass averaged 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds as a sophomore at UMass during the 2008-09 campaign.
- UVM, which has won 15 of its last 22 season openers, begins 2010-11 with MAAC champ Siena.

Maine 71, Utah Valley University 66 -- Box Score
- Maine
trailed for most of the second half before tying the game with four
seconds remaining on a jumper by junior Raheem Singleton to force the
overtime period.
- Singleton scored seven points in overtime as the Black Bears ran out to a 10-point lead in the extra period.
- Troy Barnies led the Black Bears with 16 points on the night.
Northeastern 66, Boston U. 64 -- Box Score
- Boston University outscored Northeastern, 35-25, in the second half, but could not overcome a 12 point halftime deficit.
- Senior forward John Holland, Boston U.'s leading scorer last season, paced the Terriers with 25 points.
- Freshman guard D.J. Irving dropped 14 points, including 2-3 from behind the arc, in his debut with Boston University.
- Junior
forward Jake O'Brien, a pre-season America East All-Conference selection
along with Holland, scored 11 points and added eight boards for the
Terriers.
- Boston U. shot just 7-22 from behind the three-point line while Northeastern shot 7-16 from behind the arc.
Cornell 65, Albany 61 -- Box Score
- Albany shot
52.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three against the Big
Red, but could not get past Cornell at home.
- Senior guard Tim Ambrose scored 20 points off the bench on 8-12 shooting from the field to lead all scorers.
- Albany had
four players score in double digits, with Ambrose, Logan Aronhalt (13
points), Mike Black (10 points) and Luke Devlin (10 points) scoring at
least 10 points.
Connecticut 79, Stony Brook 52 -- Box Score
- Stony Brook
trailed by just eight points at the break, but shot 5-33 from the field
in the second half while Connecticut shot 45.7 percent after the
intermission.
- The
Seawolves made five three-pointers in the first half, but missed all six
of their attempts from behind the arc in the second half.
- Brian Dougher led Stony Brook in scoring with 19 points in 28 minutes. Chris Martin added 12 points for the Seawolves.
