The 2010-11 America East women's basketball season is finally here! Seven teams began their seasons tonight and all nine open this weekend.

Upcoming Schedule
Saturday, November 13
Harvard at Maine 12 p.m.
- The Black Bears open their season at home for the second year in a row. They hope to open it with a win to avenge last year's 72-56 loss in Cambridge.
- Junior Samantha Wheeler, a third-team all-conference pick, led Maine in the last outing vs. Harvard. Wheeler picked up 15 points and eight rebounds last year.
- Missy Traversi, a former Black Bear captain, returns to Orono as an assistant for the Crimson.
Vermont at Nebraska 12:35 p.m.
- The Catamounts are returning the favor by visiting Nebraska after the Huskers played at Patrick Gym last year. Vermont dropped last year's meeting, 50-94.
- Vermont will begin the Lori Gear McBride era, as the head coach begins her first season with the program.
- The Catamounts have won 12 of their last 14 season-openers. They are on the road for two games to open the season before going home to host their TD Bank Classic next weekend.
Fordham vs. Stony Brook (Phoenix Classic, Elon, N.C.) 8:30 p.m.
- The Seawolves will play their second game in as many days to open the season. This is the first season since 2002-03 that Stony Brook has opened the season with a tournament.
- Stony Brook returns over 72 percent of its scoring from last season, yet three players who did not see any playing time last year, including two newcomers, found themselves in Friday's opening day starting lineup.

Stony Brook kicked off its season in impressive
fashion, as the Seawolves dominated Troy 77-60 in the opening game of the
Phoenix Classic at Elon University.

The Seawolves used a dominant performance in the
paint from junior forward/center Destiny Jacobs to control the game. Jacobs
came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points on 7-11 shooting from the
field.

Stony Brook finishes out its participation in
the Elon Classic with a matchup against Fordham on Saturday, Nov. 13.
No. 12 Notre Dame 99,
New Hampshire 48- Box Score

In its first game of the 2010-11 season, New
Hampshire couldn't overcome the offensive firepower of No. 12 Notre Dame, as
the Wildcats fell 99-48 on South Bend, Ind.

New Hampshire played with much more composure in
the second half, as sophomore guard Cari Reed scored a team-high 11 points on
5-7 shooting from the field.

In the paint, the Wildcats received a nice
contribution from senior center Jill McDonald, who put in four points and
grabbed a team-high five boards.

New Hampshire heads home for its home-opener on
Nov. 16. The Wildcats will host intra-state rival Dartmouth.
Albany 64, Brown 54-

Albany gave Coach Abrahamson-Henderson a victory
in her debut as the head coach, as the Great Danes used a stingy defensive
performance to defeat Brown, 64-54.

The combination of sophomore guard Ebone Henry
and sophomore forward Julie Forster carried Albany to the victory. Henry was
dominant in all aspects of the game, scoring a game-high 23 points and pulling
down 15 boards in 28 minutes of action.

Forster came off the bench to provide excellent
physicality and toughness, as she scored 13 point and grabbed a game-high 16
rebounds.

Albany opens a two-game road trip with a matchup
against St. Francis (NY) on Tuesday, Nov. 16
Boston College 84,
Boston University 65- Box Score ; Highlights

Boston University opened its season with an
84-65 loss to cross-town rival Boston College. With the victory, the Eagles now
lead the all-time series, 9-8.

In the loss, the Terriers received an
outstanding individual performance from junior guard Alex Young. With her
ability to score from the perimeter, Young proved to be virtually unstoppable,
scoring a game-high 30 points on 11-20 shooting from the field.

Young was joined in double-digits by 2010
America East Preseason All-Conference selection Mo Moran, who netted 15 points.

Boston University will look to rebound from this
loss when it hosts Yale on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Case Gym.
Delaware 59, UMBC 44- Box Score

UMBC couldn't overcome 36 points from Elena
Delle Donne, as it fell 59-44 on the road against Delaware

Freshman guard Raven Gerald came off the bench
to score 11 points, including 3-7 from behind the three-point line.

Junior guard/forward Erin Brown scored a team-high
12 points on 5-13 shooting in 35 minutes of action off the bench.

The Retrievers close out a two-game road trip
with a visit to intra-state rivals University of Maryland Eastern-Shore.
Central Connecticut
St. 46, Hartford 41- Box Score

Hartford fell 46-41 to Central Connecticut St.
in a hard fought defensive battle between intra-state rivals. This is the first
time the Hawks have dropped a season-opener since the 2007-08 season.

Senior guard Mary Sylvia and sophomore guard
Daphne Elliott each scored seven points to pace the Hawks.

Senior forward Amanda Weaver provided a strong
presence in the paint, pulling down a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.

The Hawks face a tough road trip when they head
to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to matchup with Boston College.

Binghamton dropped a heartbreaker in its
season-opener, falling 62-59 (OT) to St. Bonaventure at the Reilly Center.

impressive performance in her debut, scoring a team-high 18 points and grabbing
a team-high 11 rebounds.

2010 America East Preseason All-Conference
selection Andrea Holmes scored 15 points and dished out a team-high five
assists.
