Seven Teams Tip-Off 2010-11 Season Tonight

The 2010-11 America East women's basketball season is finally here! Seven teams begin their seasons tonight and all nine open this weekend.

  • The Seawolves, who were picked to finish fourth in the America East preseason poll, play Troy for the first time in program history.
  • Senior Kirsten Jeter, a preseason all-conference pick, led the team in scoring (14.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg) last year and is the only active player in the conference with career totals of 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.

New Hampshire at #12 Notre Dame    4 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video

  • The Wildcats begin a new era under the guidance of first-year head coach Maureen Magarity. UNH also welcomes back redshirt-freshman Kelsey Hogan from injury. She led the team with 11 points in the exhibition vs. Bentley.
  • Preseason all-America East forward Denise Beliveau came back from injury last season to put up 11.2 ppg and 6.1 rpg and is the top returner this year.

Boston College at Boston U.    5 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l WTBU Radio l

  • The Terriers begin their season with one of their toughest tests as they take on their crosstown rivals from the ACC. Boston U. fell to the Eagles in Chestnut Hill last season, 61-69.
  • Boston U., the preseason favorite in America East, returns all five starters, three of which were named to the preseason all-conference team. Sophomore Chantell Alford was the Rookie of the Year and is the only first-team all-conference selection returning from 2009-10.

Brown at Albany    5 p.m. l Live Stats l

  • Albany also begins a new era in its program history as it opens the season led by new head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.
  • The Great Danes, who lost just one player to graduation, return nearly 80% of its scoring from a team that defeated Brown last year, 64-55.
  • Sophomores Ebone Henry and Julie Forster were all-rookie picks last season and combined for 19.6 ppg, 13.7 rpg and 110 steals.

Binghamton at St. Bonaventure    7 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l WNBF Radio

  • The Bearcats open up the season for the third-straight year against the Bonnies from the A-10 Conference. Binghamton is 0-2 in the previous two meetings.
  • Binghamton, picked to finish third in the league this year, returns three starters, including second-team all-conference guard Andrea Holmes who was also named to the preseason all-conference team. Holmes is the top returner in scoring (13.5 ppg) and assists (4.7 apg).

Hartford at Central Connecticut State    7 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l WWUH Radio l Live In-Game Chat

  • Hartford and Central Connecticut renew a series that hasn’t been played since the 2004-05. Hartford holds an 18-12 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The Hawks are led at the point by senior Jackie Smith who is the team's top returning scorer (6.5 ppg) and assists-giver (3.2 apg).

UMBC at Delaware    7 p.m. l Live Stats l Live Video l 1290 The Ticket Radio

  • The Retrievers lost just one player from last year's team, and now will look to avenge last year's home loss to the Blue Hens, 61-70.
  • Junior Michelle Kurowski averaged 12.9 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds per game last year. The guard scored a team-high 17 points last time out against Delaware.
  • Sophomore transfer Kristin Coles from American will get her first action in a UMBC uniform after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
