CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The seeds and matchups are set for the 2010 America East Men's Soccer Championship after UMBC beat Stony Brook in the final regular-season game of the season Sunday.
The Retrievers downed the Seawolves, 1-0, on Andrew Bulls' goal in the 65th minute. With the win, UMBC (10-4-2 overall, 4-1-2, 14 pts America East) earned the No. 2 seed for the tournament and will host one semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Boston University (11-4-1, 6-1-0, 18), the No. 1 seed, captured its 10th America East regular-season title and will host the other semifinal contest.
Stony Brook (9-6-3, 3-2-2, 11), which won last year's championship, earned the No. 3 seed by virtue of its 2-1 overtime win over Binghamton on Oct. 24 and will host one quarterfinal contest on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Seawolves will face No. 6 Vermont (7-7-4, 2-4-1, 7), which returns to the championship after missing out last season, on Saturday at 5 p.m. at LaValle Stadium.
The fourth-seeded Bearcats, who have reached the league title game in six of the last seven years, will host No. 5 New Hampshire (7-4-5, 2-3-2, 8) in the other quarterfinal contest on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. Binghamton downed the Wildcats, 1-0, in overtime on Oct. 30 to secure the home game.
The winners of the two quarterfinal contests will play at Boston U. or UMBC on Wednesday, Nov. 10, while championship game will be played on either Nov. 14 or 15 at the highest remaining seed.
