Stony Brook 2, Albany

Stony Brook (7-5-1, 1-1-0 America East) bounced back from a
loss on the opening day of conference play with an impressive 2-0 victory at
Albany (4-7-0, 0-2-0 America East).
Although the Seawolves came away victorious, it was Albany
that dominated the opening 45 minutes. Despite outshooting Stony Brook, 8-4,
the Great Danes were unable to get the ball past sophomore goalkeeper Stefan
Manz. After a scoreless first half, the Seawolves came out playing attacking
soccer, and were rewarded in the 61st minute. Sophomore midfielder
Leonardo Fernandes netted his team-high sixth goal of the season to put Stony
Brook in the lead. Sophomore forward Raphael Abreu sealed the victory in the 83rd
minute when he found the back of the net courtesy of an excellent pass from
redshirt freshman defender Craig Hanton. The Great Danes were led in attack by
junior midfielder Darko Knezevic, who attempted four shots in the loss.
Stony Brook returns home to face New Hampshire on October
13. Albany continues its four-game homestand with a visit from UMBC on the same
day.
Boston University 2,
Hartford 0- Box Score ; Highlights
Boston University (7-3-3, 2-0-0 America East) remained
undefeated in America East play with a 2-0 victory over Hartford (3-6-0, 1-1-0
America East) at Nickerson Field.
It was an
evenly-matched first half, with both teams having early opportunities to score.
However, it was the Terriers that opened the scoring, with junior forward Ben
Berube finding the back of the net in the 33rd minute. With the
goal, Berube has now scored the game-winning goal in four straight games for
Boston University. The Terriers added to their lead just four minutes later, as
senior midfielder Ben Havey scored off a rebound from a shot by senior
midfielder Ryan Shea. Junior forward Patrick Boucher led New Hampshire in
attack, attempting four shots in the defeat.
Boston University closes out its two-game homestand with a
match up against Vermont on October 13. Hartford finishes up its two-game road
trip with a visit to Binghamton on the same day.
Binghamton 1, Vermont
0- Box Score
Binghamton (3-4-3, 1-0-1 America East) remained unbeaten in
America East play with an impressive 1-0 home victory over Vermont (6-4-3,
1-1-0).
The Bearcats came out on the attack and found the back of
the net early in the game. Junior midfielder Ryan Walter scored off a corner
kick from sophomore forward Adam Whitehead to give Binghamton the lead in the 15th
minute. That was the only offense the Bearcats would need, as redshirt freshman
goalkeeper Chris Hayen stopped all three shots he faced to preserve the shutout
victory. Senior forward Juan Peralta led the Catamounts in attack, as he
attempted three shots in the loss.
Binghamton continues its two-game homestand when it hosts
Hartford on October 13. Vermont faces a key road game when it travels to
Nickerson Field to face Boston University on the same day.
UMBC 0, New Hampshire

UMBC (5-3-2, 0-0-2 America East) and New Hampshire
(5-2-3,0-1-1 America East) played out a scoreless draw in Durham, N.H.
Despite neither team being able to score over the course of
the match, this was an exciting game between two quality sides. New Hampshire
continued its impressive defensive play, limiting the explosive UMBC offense to
only nine shots. While UMBC didn't get in its usual offensive rhythm, junior
goalkeeper Dan Louisignau put together a strong performance in the net, making
five saves to help the Retrievers earn the draw. UNH senior midfielder Marcus
Barr led the Wildcats in attack, attempting three shots in the loss.
UMBC closes out its three-game road trip with a visit to
Albany on October 13. UNH begins a three-game road trip with a match against
Stony Brook on the same day.
