Women's Soccer Action Continues on Sunday

Every gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a women's soccer update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. The update will also provide links to live coverage, box scores and highlights of select games. Sunday, October 10

Stony Brook at UMBC, 1 p.m- Live Stats

Stony Brook (3-8-2, 2-1-1 America East) will look to continue its impressive start to America East play when it visits UMBC (2-10-1, 1-3-0 America East).

The Seawolves are coming off a dominate 3-0 win over Vermont. Stony Brook opened the match playing aggressive soccer and it was rewarded with a goal in the 20th minute. Sophomore midfielder Taryn Schoenbeck opened the scoring with her second goal of the season. The score remained the same until early in the second half, when junior midfielder Dominique Adamo extended the lead in the 54th minute. Freshman midfielder Larissa Nysch closed out the scoring in the 78th minute, netting the first goal of her career.

UMBC dropped its third straight game when it fell 1-0 to Maine. The Black Bears scored the game-winning goal only 31 seconds into the match, as junior forward Courtney Harnais finished off an excellent pass from freshman midfielder Nikki Misener. Neither team created many chances after the opening goal, with each side attempting only seven shots. The Retrievers were led in attack by freshman midfielder Nicole Clark, who attempted two shots in the loss.

Stony Brook closes out its two-game road trip with a visit to New Hampshire on October 14. UMBC finishes off its three-game homestand with a visit from Binghamton on the same day.

Boston University at Vermont, 1 p.m.- Live Video

Boston University (9-5-0, 4-0-0 America East) will hope to remain undefeated in America East action when it travels to Vermont (2-11-0, 1-3-0 America East).

The Terriers head into the game on the heels of a dominant 3-0 win at Hartford. While both teams entered the game with undefeated records in conference play, Boston University grabbed the momentum just five minutes into the game. Junior midfielder Tiya Gallegos continued her excellent form, netting the opening goal of the match. The Terriers extended their lead in the 31st minute courtesy of a brilliant free-kick from junior forward Jessica Luscinski. Senior defender Corie Halasz closed out the scoring with a goal in the 60th minute.

Vermont will hope to rebound following its 3-0 loss at Stony Brook. The Catamounts had no answer for the midfield duo of sophomore Taryn Schoenbeck and junior Dominique Adamo. Both players scored a goal and dished out an assist to help Stony Brook pick up the win. Despite allowing three goals in the loss, sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Kelly put together a strong performance, making seven saves.

Following this match up, Boston University takes a break from America East play with a trip to Dartmouth on October 13. Vermont closes out its two-game homestand with a visit from Hartford on October 14.

New Hampshire at Maine, 2 p.m.- Live Stats ; Live Video

New Hampshire (5-6-3, 1-2-0 America East) will hope to bounce back from its heartbreaking loss to Albany when it visits Maine (6-4-0, 2-1-0 America East).

The Wildcats will be extremely motivated entering this game after falling 2-1 to Albany. New Hampshire grabbed control of the contest in the 28th minute when junior midfielder Stephanie Gilkenson found the back of the net to open the scoring. However, the Great Danes responded almost immediately, as sophomore forward Shayla Bergeron tied the game only two minutes later. Albany pulled off the comeback victory with only two minutes left on the clock, when Bergeron netted her second goal of the game to seal the win.

Maine will hope to extend its winning streak to three games following a 1-0 win at UMBC. Junior forward Courtney Harnais scored just 30 seconds into the game to give the Black Bears the key road victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Price-Leibenzeder recorded the shutout, making three saves to help the Black Bears hold on for the win.

 New Hampshire returns home to begin a two-game homestand with a visit from Stony Brook on October 14. Maine continues its three-game homestand when it faces Albany on the same day.

Albany at Binghamton, 2 p.m.- Live Stats ; Live Video

Albany  (6-6-1, 1-1-1 America East) begins a two-game road trip with a visit  to Binghamton (3-9-0, 1-2-0 America East).

The Great Danes will hope to build on the momentum generated from their 2-1 victory over New Hampshire. After falling behind in the 28th minute, Albany tied the game two minutes later courtesy of a goal from sophomore forward Shayla Bergeron. With only minutes remaining in regulation, Bergeron struck again, scoring the game-winning goal in the 88th minute. Bergeron has now scored a team-high seven goals for the Great Danes this season.

Binghamton will be looking to put an end to its two-game losing streak. The Bearcats are coming off a 1-0 loss to Vermont. It was a defensive battle throughout the match, with neither team able to generate much offense. However, freshman forward Haley Marks took advantage of a rare opportunity, netting the game-winning goal in the 70th minute. Sophomore forward Sarah Furminger led the Bearcats in attack, attempting eight shots.

Albany will close out its two-game road trip against Maine on October 14. Binghamton heads out on the road to face UMBC on the same day.
