Upcoming Action
Saturday, October 30
Hartford at Vermont, 1 p.m. – Live Video
Hartford (5-9-0, 2-4-0 America East) heads to Burlington, Vt., to face
Vermont (6-7-4, 1-4-1 America East) in a battle between two teams fighting for the
last remaining spot in the America East tournament.
Hartford currently sits in sixth place in the league standings, two
points ahead of Albany and Vermont, which are tied for seventh. With that edge,
the Hawks control their own destiny. Hartford will clinch a spot in the America
East tournament with a win or a tie against the Catamounts. The Hawks could
potentially finish as high as fifth place with a win. However, the Hawks have
not won a road game all season.
The Catamounts need a win and an Albany loss to clinch a tournament
spot. To do that, the Catamounts will need to get their offense on track. In six
conference games in 2010, Vermont has mustered only one goal. In the matchup between
these two teams in 2009, the Catamounts scored twice while drawing against the Hawks,
2-2, in double overtime.
Albany at Boston U., 2 p.m. – Live Stats | Live Video | Live Audio
Albany (5-9-1, 1-4-1 America East) must win to keep its postseason
hopes alive as it plays on the road at Boston University (10-4-1, 5-1 America
East).
The Great Danes are currently tied for seventh place with Vermont.
Albany can still earn a spot in the America East tournament with a win and a
Hartford loss.
Boston U., on the other hand, has already clinched the top seed in the
upcoming tournament. The Terriers earned a quarterfinal bye and home-field
advantage throughout their tournament run after they topped Binghamton, 4-0, last Wednesday.
When these teams met last season in Albany, the Terriers topped the
Great Danes, 3-2, in overtime.
New Hampshire at Binghamton 7 p.m. – Live Stats | Live Video
New Hampshire (7-3-5, 2-2-2 America East) plays at Binghamton (4-6-4,
2-2-2 America East) in a match to decide seeding in the upcoming America East
tournament.
Recently, New Hampshire has won its last two conference matches while
Binghamton has fallen in its last two league tilts. The last meeting between
these two ended in a 2-1 New Hampshire win.
Heading into Saturday evening’s match, these teams are tied fourth in
the America East standings. While both squads have clinched a spot in the
tournament, either team could finish anywhere from third to sixth in the final
standings, dependent on the results of the three other weekend contests.
If one of these teams wins, the winner will earn a home game in the
tournament’s quarterfinal round. The loser would be forced to play on the road.
Binghamton and New Hampshire have drawn with
their opponents a combined nine times this season. If they draw again today, the winner of the tiebreaker
in the standings would depend on the Hartford result. If Hartford wins, a draw
between the Bearcats and Wildcats puts the teams in a three-way tie in which
Binghamton holds the tiebreaker advantage over both teams. If Hartford draws or
loses against Vermont, New Hampshire holds the tiebreaker advantage over the
Bearcats.
