Boston U., New Hampshire, Vermont Earn Victories in Women's Soccer Action

New Hampshire 2, UMBC 0 - Box Score

New Hampshire (5-5-3, 1-1-0 America East) picked up its first win in America East play with an impressive 2-0 shutout victory over the visiting UMBC Retrievers (2-9-1, 1-2-0 America East).

The Wildcats jumped out to the early lead with a goal in the 2nd minute of action. Sophomore forward Chelsea Kuss provided an excellent pass to senior midfielder Carole LeBlanc who found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. New Hampshire secured the win just before the half, when junior midfielder Stephanie Gilkenson netted the first goal of her career. Freshman forward Rachel McKee led the Retrievers in attack, attempting four shots in the loss.

UNH returns to action on October 7 when it travels to Albany. UMBC begins a three-game homestand with a visit from Maine on the same day.

Boston University 4, Stony Brook 0- Box Score

Boston University (8-5-0, 3-0-0 America East) continued its tremendous start to America East play with a 4-0 win over Stony Brook (2-8-2, 1-1-1- America East) at Nickerson Field.

The Terriers showed off their attacking depth, with four different players scoring in the victory. Junior forward Tiya Gallegos opened the scoring in the 29th minute with the lone goal of the first half. Boston University turned up the attack in the second half, scoring three goals over the final 45 minutes. Freshman midfielder Emma Clark found the back of the net in the 56th minute to extend the lead. Goals from graduate student Lisa Kevorkian and junior midfielder Krista Minto, in the 66th and 73rd minutes, respectively, secured the win. Freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Morales put together a fantastic individual effort for Stony Brook, making nine saves in the loss.

The Terriers will hope to continue their undefeated start to America East play when they travel to Hartford on October 7. Stony Brook returns home to host Vermont on the same day.

Vermont 1, Binghamton 0 - Box Score | Highlights

Vermont (2-10-0, 1-2-0 America East) put an end to its ten-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Binghamton (3-9-0, 1-2-0 America East) at Centennial Field.

Neither team had many chances over the opening 45 minutes, as the game was scoreless at the half. However, the game opened up in the second half, and Vermont was able to take advantage of this in the 70th minute. Sophomore defender Megan Rozumalski slipped the ball behind the Binghamton defense and freshman forward Haley Marks was able to run on to the pass and score the game-winning goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Kelly kept the Bearcats off the scoreboard with her eight saves. Sophomore forward Sarah Furminger was aggressive in attack for Binghamton, as she attempted eight shots in the loss.

The Catamounts will look to build on the momentum of this win when they travel to Stony Brook on October 7. The Bearcats return to action on October 10 when they host Albany.

Hartford 0, Albany 0 (2OT) - Box Score

Hartford (4-6-3, 1-0-2 America East) maintained its unbeaten start to America East play with a 0-0 tie against the visiting Albany Great Danes (5-6-1, 0-1-1).

Both teams turned in superb defensive performances, as neither side was able to build any attacking momentum throughout the game. The Great Danes had the majority of the scoring opportunities, outshooting the Hawks, 18-7. Hartford junior goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur played with great confidence in the net, saving all five of the shots she faced. Junior midfielder Rebecca Lee was the main attacking threat for Albany, as she attempted three shots in the tie.

The Hawks close out their three-game homestand with a visit from Boston University on October 7. The Great Danes will continue the search for their first win in America East play when they host New Hampshire on the same day.
