CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The 2010 America East Women's Soccer Championship begins on Thursday with a pair of intriguing quarterfinal contests. In the first matchup, No. 4 Albany hosts No. 5 New Hampshire at 2 p.m., while No. 3 Hartford entertains No. 6 Maine at 6 p.m. The winners will advance to Sunday's semifinals with the Albany-New Hampshire winner facing top-seeded Boston University at 1 p.m. and the Hartford-Maine winner taking on No. 2 Stony Brook at 2 p.m.

Stony Brook, Hartford and Albany all clinched home games for the tournament with wins in their regular-season finales on Sunday, while Maine earned the final championship bid by virtue of Binghamton's loss to Stony Brook.

Albany (9-7-2 overall, 4-2-2 America East, 14 pts) is in search of its first America East Championship victory, while New Hampshire (8-7-4, 4-2-2, 14) hopes to return to the title game for the first time since 2007. The Great Danes won the regular-season meeting, 2-1, on Oct. 7. Second-team all-conference forward Shayla Bergeron scored her second goal of the day in the 88th minute to seal the outcome.

Hartford (7-8-3, 4-2-2, 14) downed the Wildcats, 1-0, on Sunday behind Caroline Dixon's first goal of the season, which came in the 50th minute. With the win, the Hawks earned the No. 3 seed, its hightest since 2007. Maine (7-8-0, 3-5-0, 8) snuck into the tournament as the No. 6 seed, but have beaten the Hawks this season. Maine earned a 1-0 victory in the team teams' regular-season meeting on Oct. 7.
