CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- University of Hartford's Amelia Pereira is the 2010 America East Women's
Soccer Fans' Choice Player of the Year as voted on by nearly 3,000 fans
at AmericaEast.com. Pereira, a sophomore forward, received 24 percent,
652 out of 2,708 votes, to earn the honor. Boston University's Lisa
Kevorkian was second with 457 votes while Stony Brook University's
Dominique Adamo was third with 424 tallies.
Pereira
ranks seventh in America East with 15 points and has tallied 12 of
those in league play, which is tied for third-best in the conference. A
native of Maderia Island in Portugal, Pereira has five goals and five
assists to lead Hartford, which is the No. 3 seed for the upcoming
conference tournament, its best seeding since 2007. She was
named America East Player of the Week on Oct. 18 after scoring three
goals and adding two assists in a 6-2 win over Vermont. The eight points
was the most by an America East player since 2004.
Voting
for the Fans' Choice Player of the Year ran from October 19-25 with one
player of each member institution named to the ballot. The America East All-Conference teams will be announced via release at AmericaEast.com at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
