CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Stony Brook's Dominique Adamo (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) and Hartford's Lizzy Clark (Northampton, England/Roade Secondary) have earned the final weekly women's soccer awards of 2010. after leading their respective teams to crucial wins last week. Adamo earned Player of the Week recognition while Clark picked up Rookie of the Week honors. The awards for the week ending Oct. 24 were announced Monday afternoon.
Adamo lifted Stony Brook to a pair of big victories last week. The wins gave the Seawolves the No. 2 seed for the upcoming America East Championship and an important bye to to semifinals. Adamo, a junior midfielder, scored both goals in Stony Brook’s 2-1 win over Maine Thursday and added an assist on Larissa Nysch’s game-winning score in a 2-1 win over Binghamton Sunday. Her 16 points ranks third among league leaders.
Clarke netted a goal last week and led Hartford to two key America East wins. The victories gave Hartford the No. 3 seed for the America East Championship, its highest finish since 2007. Clarke scored her first collegiate goal in a 2-0 win over UMBC Wednesday. The freshman midfielder, who was making her first career start, scored in the 19th minute on a blast from the right side.

Albany (9-7-2, 4-2-2 America East) had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped by dropping a 2-0 decision to first-place Boston University before finishing the regular season on a high note with a 1-0 victory over Vermont … The Great Danes, who set Division I single-season program records for victories (9) and shutouts (9) by defeating the Catamounts, have guaranteed themselves a winning season for the first time since posting a 10-6-2 ledger in 1988 … Junior forward Katie Grant (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia/Auburn Drive) scored her first goal of the season in the 70th minute to give UAlbany all the insurance it needed against Vermont … Freshman defender Amy Harrison (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) was credited with her first career assist and point by setting up the play … Sophomore goalkeeper Breanna Maggio (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) made two saves to register her seventh shutout of the season and fifth in conference action … Both marks are league bests … Maggio has set Division I single-season school records for wins (8) and shutouts (7), while her 11 career wins and 10 shutouts are also Division I program standards … She ended the regular season with a .789 save percentage and a 1.09 goals against average, which included an .879 save percentage and a 0.49 goals against average in conference play … UAlbany tied for third in the league standings, its best finish since joining the league in 2001 … The Great Danes will host an America East Conference Tournament match for the first time in program history when it welcomes New Hampshire to Varsity Field on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. … The winner travels to Boston University for a semifinal match on Sunday, Oct. 31.
Binghamton (4-11-2, 2-4-2 America East) went winless in its last three games and fell short of a postseason berth for the first time since 2003. The Bearcats needed a tie in their final game at Stony Brook to secure the sixth and final America East playoff spot but surrendered two first-half goals and lost 2-1 to the second-place Seawolves. The final-game requirement was made necessary after Binghamton allowed a goal to New Hampshire in the 89th minute, turning a likely victory (and three points) into a tie (and just one point)... The program had a string of six straight postseason appearances beginning in 2004 when Binghamton won the regular season and postseason titles up through last year’s runnerup finish... The team’s 12 goals scored were its fewest as a Division I program and its five goals in eight conference games made the postseason quest too challenging.
Boston University (14-5-0, 8-0-0 America East) claimed the America East regular season title outright last week with back-to-back 2-0 wins over Albany and Maine. Boston U. has secured the top seed in the AE Women’s Soccer Championships will host either New Hampshire or Albany on Sunday (Oct. 31) at Nickerson Field at 1 p.m. ... With their two shutouts last week, the Terriers have blanked 13 opponents this season to set a program record. Additionally, they extended their shutout streak to 1,000:02 minutes and 11 games, which is sixth all-time in the NCAA ... During its unprecedented 11-game winning streak, Boston U. has outscored its opponents 32-0 during its 11-game winning streak. Last week, junior Tiya Gallegos (Lakewood, Calif./Mayfair) scored two goals and one game-winner, while graduate student Lisa Kevorkian (Arcadia, Calif./Monrovia) tallied one goal and one assist. The goalkeeping duo of freshman Kelly King (Solon, Ohio/Laurel) and junior Alice Binns (Dorchester, Mass./Beaver County Day) continued to be solid as they split time.
Hartford (7-8-3, 4-2-2 America East) wrapped up the third seed in the upcoming America East Championship with victories over UMBC and at New Hampshire ... the Hawks registered two consecutive shutouts in their victories, knocking off UMBC 2-0 and New Hampshire 1-0 ... junior goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham Monson Academy) snagged seven total saves on the week ... Alex Uscilla (Westport, Conn./Saint Joseph) scored the game-winning goal against UMBC in a contest which sealed Hartford’s inclusion in the tournament ... Caroline Dixon (Manchester, England/Irlam and Cadishead Community/Oklahoma City Univ.) assisted on the second goal against the Retrievers, the first score of the career of freshman Lizzy Clarke (Northamton, England/Roade Secondary) ... Dixon also scored the game-winner in the Hawks’ 1-0 road victory at New Hampshire on Sunday ... Hartford will host #6 Maine on Thursday evening at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium at 6:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to visit #2 Stony Brook on Sunday.
Maine (7-8-0, 3-5-0 America East) advanced to its eighth straight America East playoff berth... The Black Bears dropped a pair of games this week to Stony Brook and Boston Uv... The Black Bears will be the #6 seed in the tournament and will travel to Hartford for the quarterfinals ... The Terriers drained a goal in each half and extended their shutout streak to 11 games, which is tied for one of the longest in NCAA history ... The Black Bears recorded seven shots and put four on goal to give themselves a quality chance at snapping the streak, but Kelly King and Alice Binns combined to record four saves... Nikki Misener (Burlington, Ontario/M.M. Robinson) led Maine with two shots on goal. Maggie Malone (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax West) and Lisa Bijman (Brantford, Ontario/St. John’s) also added a shot on goal... Meagan Price-Leibenzeder (Surrey, British Columbia/Clayton Heights) made four saves to help hold Boston to just two goals... Kelsey Wilson notched her seventh goal of the season at Stony Brook... She has scored more goals this season than in her previous three combined... Wilson leads UMaine in goals, points, shots and shots on goal.
UMBC (2-14-1, 1-7-0 America East) ended its season with a 2-0 loss at America East rival Hartford on Thursday… The Hawks scored twice in a five-minute span in the first half to seal the victory… Freshman midfielder Nicole Clark (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) took three of UMBC’s four shots in the game… Freshman goalie Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) made five saves in the game and finished with 108 on the season, the fifth-highest single-season total in school history… She leads the America East with 6.75 saves per game and ranks fourth with an .805 save percentage… Clark and freshman forward Amy Savage (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) tied for the team lead with six points… The pair also had a team-best two goals, along with seniors Christine Sadowski (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) and Sandra Vacarino (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional)… Nine different players accounted for UMBC’s 13 goals this season.
New Hampshire (8-7-4, 4-3-1 America East) went 0-1-1 last week, earning a 1-1 tie in the final minute at Binghamton on Oct. 21 and dropping a 1-0 decision against Hartford on Senior Day (Oct. 24) ... the Wildcats, who could have earned the No. 2 seed in the America East Championship tournament with a win against Hartford, instead earned the fifth seed for the upcoming tournament ... UNH will play at Albany on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. ... trailing 1-0 late in the 89th minute, the Wildcats received a jolt from Alli Rozelle (Stratham, N.H./Stratham), who chose no better time to net her first goal of the season ... after senior Amy Avitabile (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) blasted a shot off the crossbar from 30 yards out, UNH’s feeling of deflation quickly dissolved as Rozelle collected the rebound and tapped the ball into the empty net to tie the game at one ... freshman goalkeeper Erica Correa (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) made six saves against Binghamton and four saves versus Hartford.
Stony Brook (6-9-2, 5-2-1 America East) wrapped up the regular season with 2-1 victories over Maine and Binghamton ... the Seawolves were 4-1 in their final five games and finished in second place for the second time in three seasons ... junior Dominque Adamo (Ramsey, N.Y.) scored both goals in the victory over Maine on Thursday ... her free kick with two minutes left in the first half broke a 1-1 tie ... freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Morales (Temecula, Calif.) made two point-blank saves to preserve the win for Stony Brook ... the Seawolves then scored two first-half goals against Binghamton before holding on for a 2-1 win ... sophomore Sa’sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.) scored the first goal on a free kick ... freshman Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) scored the second goal off a feed from Adamo, who had four goals and three assists over the final five games of the season ... Morales allowed one goal or fewer in four of the Seawolves final five games ... Stony Brook honored its nine seniors prior to Sunday’s game.
Vermont (2-16-0, 1-7-0 America East) wrapped up the 2010 campaign with a record of 2-16 overall and 1-7 in America East ... Freshman Haley Marks (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield, N.Y.) led the team in scoring with 11 points on five goals and 1 assist ... Marks is the eighth freshmen in the program’s history to lead UVM in scoring and the first since teammate Jessica Becker tallied 12 points in her rookie year in 2007 ... Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Kelly (Southampton, N.J.) finished the year with 107 stops, good for the ninth most in a single-season at Vermont ... The Catamounts graduate six seniors from this year’s squad.
