Hartford 2, Army 1 (OT)-
Box Score
Hartford (5-7-0, 2-2-0 America East) closed out the
non-conference portion of its schedule with a 2-1 (OT) victory against Army.
It was a thrilling opening 45 minutes, with both teams
finding the back of the net. The Hawks grabbed the lead in the 26th
minute, as freshman defender Tomas Boyle netted the first goal of his career, courtesy
of an assist from freshman defender Liam Williams. The Black Knights tied the
game with just four minutes remaining in the half when Jeffrey Pickett scored
his second goal of the season. After a scoreless second half, the Hawks picked
up the win early in overtime. Sophomore midfielder James Stamopoulos gave
Hartford the victory with his third goal of the season just three minutes into the
overtime period.
Hartford continues its push for a home game in the America
East conference tournament when it travels to UMBC on October 23.
UMBC 2, No. 23 Penn State 1
(OT)- Box Score
UMBC (7-4-2, 1-1-2 America East) picked up its first-ever
victory over a Big 10 opponent with an impressive 2-1 (OT) win against Penn
State, who is ranked 23rd in the College Soccer News National Poll.
The Retrievers came out with an aggressive mentality and
were rewarded with the opening goal in the 21st minute. Junior forward
Andrew Bulls netted his second goal of the season to give UMBC the early lead.
Bulls has played the role of provider for most of the season, as he leads the
America East with 10 assists. The Retrievers maintained the lead until the 75th
minute when Corey Hertzog tied the game with his 14th goal of the
season. Despite allowing the goal, UMBC continued to attack and earned the win
in the 98th minute. Sophomore midfielder Milo Kapor finished off an excellent
pass from freshman forward Pete Caringi to seal the victory.
UMBC returns to America East action when it hosts Hartford
on October 23.
New Hampshire 0, Holy
Cross 0 (2OT)- Box Score
New Hampshire (5-3-5, 0-2-2 America East) recorded its third
shutout in its past four games when it tied Holy Cross, 0-0.
While the Wildcats have been dominant on the defensive end
throughout the season, their offense continued to struggle. With the 0-0 tie
against Holy Cross, UNH has now gone six straight games without scoring a goal.
Junior midfielder Brad Hilton led the Wildcats in attack, attempting three
shots in the scoreless tie. With senior goalkeeper Colin O'Donnell not in the lineup against Holy Cross, senior goalkeeper Chris Divine put together a great performance. Divine
made five saves to help New Hampshire earn the tie.
The Wildcats continue the search for their first win in
America East play when they host Boston University on October 23.
