Hartford at Maine, 12

Hartford (5-7-3, 2-1-2 America East) looks to build on its
strong performance in America East play when it travels to Maine (6-6-0, 2-3-0
America East).
The Hawks put together their best offensive performance of
the year in a 6-2 victory at Vermont. After the opening 45 minutes ended with
the score tied at 1-1, the Hawks came out firing in the second half. Hartford
scored five straight goals early in the second half, including three from sophomore
midfielder Amelia Pereira, who recorded a team-high eight points in the match. The
six goals scored were the most by a Hartford team since an 8-0 victory over
Fordham in 2002.
Maine dropped its second straight home game when it fell 1-0
to Albany. Despite playing aggressive soccer throughout the match, the Black
Bears were unable to find a way to get the ball past Albany sophomore
goalkeeper Breanna Maggio, who made four saves in the match. The lone goal of
the game came in the 51st minute, as freshman midfielder Katie Dunn
netted the first goal of her career. Maine was led in attack by junior forward
Carolyne Nellis, who attempted four shots in the loss.
Hartford returns home to host UMBC on October 21. Maine
travels to Stony Brook on the same day.
Boston University at
Binghamton, 1 p.m.- Live Stats ; Live Video
Boston University (11-5-0, 5-0-0 America East) looks to
extend its winning streak to nine games when it faces Binghamton (4-9-1, 2-2-1
America East). The Terriers can secure at least a share of the America East regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming conference championship with a win.
Boston University recorded the 200th win in
program history when it defeated Dartmouth in non-conference play. The Terriers
were the more aggressive team throughout the match, outshooting the Big Green,
15-6. The lone goal of the game came in the 61st minute when junior
forward Jessica Luscinski scored her eighth goal of the season to give the
Terriers the big victory. On the defensive end, Boston University extended its
shutout streak to eight games.
Binghamton used two early goals to pull out a 2-1 victory
over UMBC. Senior defender Stefanie Knopick scored two goals to help push the
Bearcats to the win. Knopick opened the scoring just two minutes into the game,
as she finished off an excellent pass from sophomore forward Jamie Holliday. Knopick
extended the lead just two minutes later when she found the back of the net off
a cross from sophomore forward Sarah Furminger.
Boston University returns home to host Albany on October 21.
Binghamton continues its homestand when it faces New Hampshire on the same day.
Albany vs. UMBC, 2
p.m.- Live Stats
Albany (7-6-2, 2-1-2 America East) looks to extend its
unbeaten streak to five games when it hosts UMBC (2-12-1, 1-5-0 America East).
The Great Danes earned their first-ever victory over Maine
when they defeated the Black Bears, 1-0. After a very defensive opening 45
minutes, Albany scored the game-winning goal early in the second half. Freshman
midfielder Katie Dunn scored the first goal of her career in the 51st
minute of action to give Albany the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Breanna Maggio
was excellent in net, making four saves to earn the win.
The Retrievers were unable to overcome an early deficit in
their 2-1 loss to Binghamton. Two goals from senior defender Stefanie Knopick
in the opening five minutes put UMBC in an early hole. The Retrievers responded
in the 12th minute, as freshman midfielder Nicole Clark found the
back of the net. However, UMBC was unable to convert on a handful of scoring
opportunities throughout the rest of the match. UMBC freshman goalkeeper Lauren
Kadet made seven saves in the loss.
Following this match up, Albany heads out on the road to
face Boston University on October 21. UMBC continues its road trip with a visit
to Hartford on the same day.
New Hampshire vs.
Vermont, 2 p.m.- Live Stats
New Hampshire (7-6-3, 3-2-0 America East) hopes to continue
its excellent form in America East play when it hosts Vermont (2-13-0, 1-5-0
America East).
The Wildcats earned a key 2-1 home victory over Stony Brook.
New Hampshire overcame an early goal from Stony Brook sophomore midfielder
Taryn Schoenback to pick up the win. Sophomore forward Chelsea Kuss tied the game
for the Wildcats in the 18th minute of action, as she converted an
excellent pass from senior midfielder Ashley Avitabile. New Hampshire sealed
the victory in the 38th minute when sophomore midfielder Monique
Lamotte scored the game-winning goal.
Vermont struggled defensively in its 6-2 loss to Hartford.
After Hartford took the lead in the 28th minute, Vermont responded
one minute later, when senior midfielder Emily Milbank tied the score with a
goal from the penalty spot. However, the Hawks scored five goals early in the
second half to build an insurmountable lead. The Catamounts did receive a goal
from freshman forward Haley Marks in the 75th minute to make the
score, 6-2.
New Hampshire faces a key road test when it travels to
Binghamton on October 21. Vermont faces Dartmouth in non-conference action on
October 19.
