Thursday, October 14
Hartford 6, Vermont 2 -- Box Score
Hartford (5-7-3, 2-1-2 America East), fueled by a second-half hat trick
from sophomore forward Amelia Pereira, topped Vermont (2-13-0, 1-5-0 America
East) on Thursday afternoon, 6-2.
Hartford scored first in the 28th minute when sophomore forward Caitlin
Alves scored on an assist from Pereira. However, the Hawks did not hold that
lead for long. Vermont tied the score, 1-1, when senior midfielder Emily
Milbank converted on a penalty kick in the 29th minute. The score was tied at
one going into the half.
In the second half, Hartford’s offense showed up. The Hawks scored five
consecutive goals to open up a 6-1 lead. Three of those goals came from
Pereira, who totaled eight points (three goals, two assists) in the match. Junior
forward Alex Uscilla and freshman forward Nicole Silenok also scored for the
Hawks in the second half.
Vermont freshman forward Haley Marks scored in the 75th minute on a
pass from sophomore midfielder Midori Eckenstein to make the final score 6-2.
Binghamton 2, UMBC 1 -- Box Score
Two early goals by senior back Stefani Knopick propelled Binghamton (4-9-1,
2-2-1 America East) past UMBC (2-12-1, 1-5-0 America East) in Baltimore.
Knopick did not waste any time scoring her two goals in the match. Her
first tally came in the second minute on an assist from sophomore forward Jamie
Holliday. Just 1:59 later, Knopick struck again, this time on a cross from sophomore
forward Sarah Furminger. That second goal put the Bearcats ahead, 2-0.
UMBC did not take long to answer, scoring in the 12th minute. Freshman
midfielder Nicole Clark took control of the ball and beat the goalie to bring
the Retrievers within one goal, 2-1. However, that was all UMBC was able to get
as neither team scored the rest of the way.
The shots in the match were even with each team taking 16. UMBC held a
slight advantage in shots on goal, 10-9.
In goal, Bearcat freshman Carrie Martin stopped eight Retriever shots.
Martin’s counterpart, UMBC freshman Lauren Kadet, made seven saves in the match.
Albany 1, Maine 0 -- Box Score
Albany (7-6-2, 2-1-2 America East) travelled to face Maine (6-6-0,
2-3-0 America East) and came out with its first-ever victory against the Black
Bears, 1-0.
The teams were scoreless into the second half. Albany broke the tie in
the 51st minute when freshman midfielder Katie Dunn scored her
first-career goal, unassisted, giving Albany the 1-0 lead.
The lone goal proved to be enough for the Great Danes and sophomore
keeper Breanna Maggio. Maggio made four saves on the way to her fifth shutout
of the season. That shutout total is currently tied for the league lead.
Maine did not go down without a fight. The Black Bears held the
advantage in total shots, 9-6, and corner kicks, 6-0.
New Hampshire 2, Stony Brook 1 -- Box Score
New Hampshire (7-6-3, 3-2-0 America East) came back from a one-goal
deficit to beat Stony Brook (4-9-2, 3-2-1 America East) at home in Durham, N.H.
The Seawolves got on the board first in the 12th minute when sophomore
midfielder Taryn Schoenback scored to give Stony Brook the early 1-0 lead. Freshman
forward Caitlin Pfeiffer and junior midfielder Dominique Adamo were credited
with assists on the play.
The Wildcats were able to strike back with a pair of first-half goals.
In the 18th minute, sophomore forward Chelsea Kuss found the back of the net to
tie the match at one. Senior midfielder Ashley Avitabile assisted on the goal.
In the 38th minute, sophomore midfielder Monique Lamotte put New Hampshire in
the lead, 2-1, with her first goal of the season.
New Hampshire was able to protect its one-goal lead in the second half,
standing up to a Stony Brook offense that attempted 18 shots, nine of which
came in that second half. New Hampshire freshman goalkeeper Erica Correa made
eight saves in the match.
