Boston U. 1, UMBC 0 -- Box Score
Boston University (7-5-0, 2-0-0 America East) used a late first-half goal to get
past UMBC (2-8-1, 1-1-0 America East) on the road in Baltimore.
Freshman midfielder Kylie Strom gave the Terriers' lone goal, and the only goal they would need, in the 45th minute.
The goal, Strom's first of the season, put Boston U. ahead, 1-0.
UMBC did get some offensive opportunities, firing two shots that hit
the crossbar. However, the Retrievers were unable to score, as they were outshot, 18-6,
by the Terriers.
The win is the fourth straight win for Boston U. All four of those wins
have been shutouts. The string of four shutouts ties a Boston U. program record.
Hartford 1, Binghamton 0 -- Box Score
Hartford (4-6-2, 1-0-1 America East) snuck past Binghamton (3-8-0, 1-1-0 America East) at
home, outlasting the Bearcats in a defensive match for a 1-0 victory.
Junior forward Breeanna Robinson broke the scoreless tie in the 70th
minute of the match, giving Hartford the lead, 1-0. Robinson was assisted on
the goal by sophomore forward Amelia Pereira.
The goal proved to be enough for the Hawks to win this
defensive battle. The two teams combined for just 15 shots and five shots on
goal. Hartford did not have a shot on goal until Robinson's goal midway through
the second half.
Junior keeper Lauren Brodeur made three saves in goal for the Hawks, earning her league-best fourth shutout of the season.
Stony Brook 2, Albany 0 -- Box Score
Stony Brook (2-7-2, 1-0-1 America East) jumped out to a first-half lead on the
road at Albany (5-6-0, 0-1-0 America East) as the Seawolves spoiled the America East
opener for the Great Danes, 2-0.
The Seawolves grabbed the lead in the 22nd minute when
junior midfielder Colleen McKenna corralled a cross from junior midfielder Dominique
Adamo and put a shot into the back of the net. Stony Brook added to its lead in
the second half when freshman forward Tess Hagenlock scored in the 78th
minute. That goal, assisted by freshman forward Caitlin Pfeiffer, put the
Seawolves ahead, 2-0.
Albany actually outshot Stony Brook, 20-15, including a 9-7 edge in
shots on goal. Albany's offensive attack was led by junior midfielder Rebecca
Lee and sophomore forward Chelsea DeVerna, who combined for 10 shots and three
shots on goal.
Stony Brook freshman keeper Chelsea Morales recorded nine saves in the
win.
Maine 2, Vermont 1 -- Box Score
Maine (5-4-0, 1-1-0 America East) fell behind Vermont (1-10-0, 0-2-0 America East) early,
but fought back to earn its first America East win of the 2010 campaign, 2-1.
Vermont struck first, getting on the board in the 12th
minute when freshman forward Haley Marks took a pass from senior midfielder Alison
Hemphill on a breakaway, putting the Catamounts up, 1-0.
The Black Bears tied the score before the break. Freshman
midfielder Maggie Malone capitalized on a deflected corner kick to even the
match, 1-1. Malone's goal, her first on the year, came in the 42nd
minute.
Maine took the lead in the second half when freshman defender Lisa
Bijman scored an unassisted goal in the 65th minute. The goal put
the Black Bears ahead, 2-1, a lead they would maintain for the remainder of the
match.
The Maine offense kept continuous pressure on the Catamounts, holding a
23-6 advantage on shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal.
