Week #4 Indoor Track and Field Awards Release
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University at Albany has swept the Track Performer of the Week awards for the second-straight week, with junior John Moore (Fort Johnson, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) and senior Fey Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y./Trevor/Central Florida) garnering the honors after strong showings at the competitive Penn State Northeast Challenge. Albany senior Luke Schoen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) also claimed a title at the meet and has earned the men’s Field Performer of the Week award while University of Maine sophomore Jesse Labreck (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) has captured the female Field Performer of the Week accolade for the week ending January 17.
Against schools from the Big East and Big 10 conferences, Moore finished third in the 1,000m with a IC4A-qualifying time of 2:22.36. Moore’s time set a school record and is the fastest America East time this season. He also ran the fastest split (1:51.6) for the Great Dane 4x800m relay team, which won in a meet-record time of 7:33.97. The relay time tops the conference standings and qualifies the Great Dane squad for the IC4A championship in March.
Adaramola has captured her second-straight weekly honor after posting a pair of ECAC-qualifying times at the meet against 10th-ranked Penn State and 22nd-ranked West Virginia. She finished second in the 60m dash behind two-time Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings. Adaramola’s time of 7.61 moves her to the top of the performance list. At the meet, she also anchored the 4x400m relay team that finished eighth in a time of 3:51.54. The Great Dane relay squad tops the conference standings and qualified for the ECAC championship in March.
Three-time All-American, Schoen won the pole vault against two reigning conference champions, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Cornell, with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 5.10m. His mark set a new meet record and tops the performance list.
Labreck led the Black Bear women against Dartmouth on Saturday. She posted two ECAC-qualifying marks, winning the long jump with a leap of 5.83m and the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.50. Labreck ranks first in the conference standings for both events. This is Labreck’s second weekly honor of the season.
Albany – The Great Danes competed at the Penn State Northeast Challenge on Saturday where they posted 12 IC4A and ECAC marks, won three events and set three meet records. The men’s squad, which competed against reigning conference champions Saint Francis (Pa.) and Cornell, was led by John Moore, who placed third in the 1,000m, breaking Albany’s school record with an IC4A-qualifying time of 2:22.36. Moore tops the conference standings followed by classmate Tyler Fogarty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who placed sixth in the 1,000m in an IC4A-qualifying time of 2:26.87. Moore and Fogarty also helped the 4x800m relay team win with a meet record and IC4A-qualifying mark of 7:33.97. Luke Schoen and junior Wilfredo de Jesus Elias (Arroyo, P.R./Natividad Rodriguez Gonzalez) led the Albany field competitors, posting IC4A-qualifying marks and winning the men’s pole vault and weight throw, respectively. Schoen tops the conference standings in the men’s pole vault after clearing 5.10m and setting a new meet record. De Jesus Elias won the weight throw with a toss of 18.18m, good enough for second in the performance list. Fey Adaramola led the women against No. 10 Penn State and No. 22 West Virginia on Saturday, posting two ECAC marks. Adaramola finished second in the 60m dash behind two-time Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings. Placing first out of all the collegian in the race, Adaramola crossed the finish line in an ECAC-qualifying time of 7.61. Adaramola also ran the last leg of the 4x400m relay, which finished eighth with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 3:51.54. The Great Danes 4x400m relay team tops the performance. Albany continues its indoor season on January 22 at the Eighth Annual Great Dane Classic.
Binghamton – The Bearcats swept the 4x400m relays and claimed five men’s and six women’s individual titles at the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday. Junior Cazal Arnett (Jamaica, N.Y./ Christ the King) and freshman Jessica Hennig (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) led the men’s and women’s squads, respectively, each capturing an individual title and a relay win. Arnett won the men’s 400m in 49.43. He also ran the last leg of the 4x400 relay that won in an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:18.13. The Bearcat relay team takes over the second spot in the conference standings. Freshman Zach Keefer (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep), also a member of the victorious 4x400m relay team, posted another IC4A mark for Binghamton, placing second in the 500m in 1:04.71. Senior Kevin Ralston (Pamona, N.Y./ Ramapo), junior Andrew Ugolino (West Hurley, N.Y./ Onteora), and sophomores Nelson Hall (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) and Eric VanAerman (Gardiner, N.Y./Wallkill) also captured wins for the Bearcats. Ralston won the long jump (3.72m) and Ugolino claimed the 800 (1:57.15) while Hall won the high jump (1.93m) and VanAerman took first in the pole vault (4.70m). Hennig captured a first-place finish for the women in the 500m with a time of 1:17.57. She also ran the second leg for the 4x400 relay team that won in 4:02.21. Five other Binghamton women claimed titles including, junior Rosie DeFino (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North) in the long jump (5.33m), graduate student Kim Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./ Leonardo de Vinci) in the 200m (26.34) and sophomore Bearcats Kaitlin Sullivan (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) in the 55m hurdles (8.58), Abigail Oakes (Lyndonville, N.Y./Lyndonville) in the weight throw (10.83) and Michelle Eberhart (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) in the triple jump (8.38m). Binghamton next competes on Friday, January 22 at the Great Dane Classic.
Boston U. – The Terriers men’s squad defeated Massachusetts and Sacred Heart on Thursday in Boston U.’s first head-to-head meet of the 2009-10 season. The men claimed the top-two finishers in five events at the meet led by junior Joel Senick (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). Senick won the 400m in 49.04 followed by freshman Davis VanOpdorp (Winchester, Mass.), who placed second in 51.42. Senick posted an IC4A-qualifying time in the events and takes over the second spot in the conference standings. He also ran the last leg of the 4x400m relay that won in 3:20.75. Another Boston U. twosome went 1-2 in the 1,000m with sophomore Balint Horvath (Budapest, Hungary) finishing first in 2:27.70 followed by senior Jeff Moreau (Hanson, Mass.) in second in 2:28.90. Both Horvath and Moreau posted IC4A-qualifying marks in the event. In the mile, junior Craig MacPherson (Derry, N.H.) and freshman Robert Gibson (Brookline, Mass.) finished 1-2 with both posting IC4A times of 4:12.94 and 4:13.00, respectively. MacPherson claims the top spot in the conference standings followed by Gibson. The Terrier women finished fourth at the meet on Thursday, capturing six titles. Senior Whitney Ford (White Plains, N.Y.) led Boston U., taking first in the 55m dash in 7.18., good enough for third in the performance list. She claimed a second title in the triple jump with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 12.19m, which places her atop the conference standings. Ford also claimed second in the 200m behind teammate junior Laura Martin (Tacoma, Wash.), who led the Terriers in a sweep of the event. Ford moves to second in the conference standings behind Martin who again posted an ECAC-qualifying time in the 200m. Freshman Allison Barwise (Orange, Conn.) also turned in a strong performance for the Terriers, winning titles in the high jump and the long jump. Barwise’s mark of 1.65m in the high jump moves her to second in the performance list. Boston U. next hosts the Terrier Invitational on January 29.
Hartford – The Hawks begin their 2010 schedule at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, January 23.
Maine – The Black Bears fell in a dual meet to Dartmouth on Saturday. Jesse Labreck led the women, winning two titles while senior Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine/Portland) led the men, claiming a win in IC4A-qualifying time. Labreck won the long jump with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 5.83m. She also claimed the title in the 60m hurdles with an ECAC mark of 8.50. Labreck tops the performance list for both events. Senior Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine/Lawrence)and sophomore Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) also posted wins for the women. Letourneau captured the mile run in an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:58.77. Conner led a sweep of the 3,000m, posting an ECAC-qualifying mark of 9:54.16. Letourneau is second while Conner claims the top spot in the conference standings for their respective events. On the men’s side, Edwards won the 500m in 1:05.14. Senior Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine/Lake Region) and sophomore Riley Masters (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) also posted IC4A-qualifying marks for the Black Bears. Bartlett won the 800m in 1:54.90 while Masters crossed the finish line first in the 3,000m in 8:14.15. Bartlett moves to second in the conference standings while Masters claims the top spot in the 3,000m by over 10 seconds. Maine returns to action on January 29 at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games.
UMBC – The Retrievers competed at the NYRR College Saturday Night at the Armory in New York on Saturday. The UMBC squads captured three titles at the meet. Senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) claimed a win for the women in the 3,000m with an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:55.14. Parkinson moves to third in the performance list. On the men’s side, both seniors Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) and Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) captured titles. Gilreath won the men’s triple jump with an IC4A-qualifying leap of 14.79m. He already holds the top spot in the performance list, but tied his season best mark in the event. Christmas posted a win in the mile run, finishing first just ahead of teammate junior Chris Snyder (McConnellsburg, Pa./McConnellsburg). Both crossed the finish line in IC4A-qualifying times of 4:13.72 and 4:13.74, respectively. Sophomore Aaron Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dematha) and freshman Amanda Dellar (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) also posted top-three finishes for the Retrievers. Brooks finished second in the men’s shot put with a throw of 14.93m while Dellar placed third in the women’s shot put with an ECAC-qualifying throw of 14.07m. Dellar already tops the performance list, but betters her season-best throw. The UMBC squads next compete on January 30 at the George Mason Invitational.
New Hampshire – The Wildcats return to action on January 23 when they host Holy Cross and Quinnipiac.
Stony Brook – The Seawolves opened 2010 at the Gotham Cup. Sophomore Kristen Conklin (Middletown, N.Y./Valley Central) and senior Lisa Voltaire (Stockholm, Sweden/Lopargymnasiet School) led the women while sophomore Matthew Carnes (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and senior Robert Treadwell (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) led the men. Conklin claimed the top finish by a Stony Brook woman, placing second in the mile run in 5:14.16. Voltaire raced to a fourth-place finish in the 3,000m in 10:04.04, good enough for fourth in the conference standings. Carnes placed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.82m followed by Treadwell in fifth with a toss of 10.83m. Three other Seawolves captured top-15 finishes. Sophomores Jillian Fauser (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Justine Noel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) claimed two of the top-15 finishes for the women, placing 11th in the 1,000m (3:10.32) and 15th in the 500m (1:20.17), respectively. Junior Brandon Leung (Rego Park, N.Y./Francis Lewis) claimed the other top-15 finish for the men, posting a 12th-place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:30.00. The Seawolves next compete on Saturday, January 23 at the Princeton Invitational.
Vermont – The Catamounts competed at the Sorlein Memorial meet at Rhode Island over the weekend to start their 2010 schedule. Seniors Justin Scricca (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) and Doug Maisey (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Wissahickon) led the men’s squad each posting a win for the team. Scricca won the 200m with a time of 22.46, good enough for third in the conference standings. He also earned a third-place finish in the 55m in 6.52. Maisey captured first in the 3,000m, posting a time of 8:33.21. Maisey, who holds the school record for the event, is fourth in the performance list. Other top finishers for the men were freshman Ryan Sleeper (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) and junior Shane Snyder (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area Senior), who placed third and fourth in the mile with times of 4:21.12 and 4:25.90, respectively. On the women’s side, senior Aly Millett (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) picked up a pair of titles. She won the 1,000m in 2:57.37 and the mile in 4:59.75. Millett tops the performance list in the 1,000m and is third in the mile run. Freshman Julie McGilpin (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) earned her first victory as a Catamount, crossing the finish line first in the 800m with a time of 2:19.96. McGilpin’s time puts her in third in the conference standings. She also helped the 4x800 relay team win, running the anchor leg of the relay that finished in 9:52.97. Sophomore Morgan Powers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hills), also a member of the victorious 4x800 relay team, captured a second-place individual finish in the 800m behind McGilpin. Vermont returns to action on Friday, January 22 when it plays host to Middlebury and McGill University.
