Week #3 Indoor Track and Field Awards Release (PDF)
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In their first indoor meets of the season, University at Albany seniors Alie Beauvais (Hempstead, N.Y./Hempstead/Lincoln (Mo.)) and Fey Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y./Trevor/Central Florida) posted IC4A and ECAC-qualifying marks to garner the first 2010 male and female Track Performer of the Week awards while senior Freddie Wills (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and junior Kadine Johnson (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) complete the Great Danes sweep of the weekly honors, claiming the male and female Field Performer of the Week accolades, respectively, for the week ending January 10.
At the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic, Beauvais posted two IC4A-qualifying times. He placed second in the 400m in a field of 63 runners. Beauvais crossed the finish line in an IC4A-qualifying time of 48.89, taking over the top spot in the America East performance list. He is the first runner in the conference to break the 49 second mark this winter. Beauvais also anchored the victorious 4x400m relay team which won with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:18.02 and topped the conference standings.
Adaramola also factored into a pair of ECAC-qualifying performances on Saturday. She placed second out of 41 runners in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 7.59, just .01 seconds out of first. Her time missed matching the school record by .04 seconds, but is the top America East time this season. Adaramola also anchored the 4x400 medley relay squad that placed second in 3:51.55, setting a new top conference time for the season.
Wills finished first in the heptathlon at Army’s Carleton Crowell Open, accumulating 4,807 points and qualifying for the IC4A championship in March. He won the long jump, the high jump and the 60m hurdles with marks of 6.96m, 2.01m and 8.64 seconds, respectively. He also tied for first in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 7.34. Wills takes over the top spot in the performance list with his leap in the long jump.
Johnson claimed two wins over the weekend and shattered her own school record. In the weight throw, she won with a toss of 16.97m, qualifying her for the ECAC championship and breaking her school record. Her throw is the best mark in the conference this season by almost two feet. Johnson captured her second win in the shot put with a mark of 12.20m, the second-best mark in the conference standings.
Albany – The Great Danes men’s and women’s squads opened their seasons at the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic on January 9. No team scoring was kept. Captains Alie Beauvais and Fey Adaramola led Albany each posting one of thirteen top America East Conference season marks captured by the Great Danes on Saturday. Beauvais placed second in the men’s 400m with a career-best time of 48.89 which moves him to the top of the conference standings. His mark also qualifies him for the IC4A championships in March. Beauvais recorded another IC4A-qualifying mark in the 4x400m relay. He anchored the relay which won in a time of 3:18.02, posting a top conference time. Adaramola clocked in with a personal-best mark in the 60m dash, meeting ECAC-qualifying standards and topping the performance list. She placed second in the event .01 seconds behind the winner. Adarmola also anchored the women’s 4x400m relay team which finished second in an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:51.55. In the mile, junior Tyler Fogarty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned a second-place finish, topping the men’s performance list. Fogarty placed second with an IC4A-qualifying time of 4:14.24. In the field events, junior Celine Cauderlier (Entzhein, France/Lycee Louis Pasteur/Université Louis Pasteur) led Albany, posting a first-place finish in the women’s pole vault. Cauderlier cleared 3.34m and tops the conference standings. Albany athletes also competed at the Carleton Crowell Open on January 8-9. Kadine Johnson led the women, winning both throwing events while Freddie Wills and junior Wilfredo de Jesus Elias (Arroyo, P.R./Natividad Rodriguez Gonzalez) led the men, winning the heptathlon and weight throw, respectively. Johnson captured the weight throw title with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 16.97m, breaking her own school record. She also won the shot put with a toss 12.20m. Wills, 2009 America East decathlon champion, won the heptathlon title with an IC4A-qualifying score. De Jesus Elias also posted an IC4A-qualifying mark in the weight throw which he won with a toss of 17.71m. The Great Danes return to action on January 16 at Penn State where the women will compete against nationally ranked squads, Penn State and West Virginia.
Binghamton – The Bearcats, who competed at the non-scoring Cornell Relays in 2009, begin 2010 at the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday, January 16.
Boston U. – Competing in mini meets during winter break, the Terriers prepared for their first meet of 2010 on January 14 when Boston U. hosts a multi-team meet.
Hartford – After a dual loss to Vermont to end 2009, the Hawks look to start 2010 off strong at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, January 23.
Maine – The Black Bears squads ended 2009 on different notes with the women defeating New Hampshire and the men losing by three points. Both teams look to get off to a strong start in 2010 at Dartmouth on Saturday, January 16.
UMBC – The Retrievers opened 2010 at the Gulden Relays where they claimed nine titles. UMBC swept both the 60m hurdles and the 500m dashes on Saturday. Senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) won the men’s hurdle in 8.19, which qualifies him for the IC4A championship in March. Pugh tops the performance list in the event. Pugh also helped the men’s shuttle hurdles team claim victory in a new school-record time of 30.53. Sophomore Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) won the women’s hurdle in 8.96. Sophomores Joshua Hewitson (New Market, Md./Linganore) and Ashley McClure (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor) swept the men’s and women’s 500m dashes, respectively, posting times of 1:05.63 and 1:22.00, respectively. Hewitson’s time on Saturday places him at fourth in the conference standings. UMBC also had three other Retrievers post ECAC or IC4A-qualifying marks. Senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) won the 60m dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 7.66. Her time ranks her second in the conference performance list. Foreman also ran a leg of the 4x200 relay that captured gold in 1:46.20. Freshman Amanda Dellar (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) also claimed a title for the women, finishing third in the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying throw of 13.70m. Dellar now tops the performance list for the event. Senior Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) claimed another IC4A-qualifying mark for the men, placing second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.79m. Gilreath claims the top spot in the conference standings. He also won the high jump with a leap of 1.99m. The Retrievers return to action Saturday, January 16 at the New York Armory Invite.
New Hampshire – The Wildcats return to action on January 23 when they host Holy Cross and Quinnipiac. The women will look to improve from 0-1 in dual meets this season while the men will look to go 3-0.
Stony Brook – Both Seawolf squads start 2010 at the NYU Invitational on Friday, January 15.
Vermont – The Catamounts began the 2009-2010 season by defeating Hartford and will look to carry on their winning ways at Rhode Island on January 15-16.
