CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- In leading the University of New Hampshire to its first regular-season tournament title of 2009, Wildcat seniors Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) and Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) were named America East Player and Setter of the Week, respectively. Binghamton University freshman middle blocker Alex Roland (Austin, Texas/Austin) was tabbed the Rookie of the Week. All three awards were for the week ending September 27.
Fogarty was named to the All-Tournament team, leading the Wildcats to a perfect 3-0 record and the title at the Providence Friar Classic. The senior middle blocker hit at a .360 clip with a team-best 44 kills in four matches total last week, including a 3-1 mid-week victory at Northeastern. Fogarty hit 14 kills with a .462 percentage against the Huskies. She also hit 13 kills at a .286 rate against St. Francis (N.Y.), 12 kills at a .276 clip against Providence, and five kills against just one error while playing just one set against Coppin State. Fogarty averaged 4.00 kills per set for the week and added six blocks, including four in the tournament finale against the host Friars, seven digs and two assists. This is Fogarty's first career Player of the Week award.
The freshman middle blocker led Binghamton this past week with 0.92 blocks per set, including two solo blocks and nine block assists, while also averaging 1.50 kills per set. Roland contributed 18 kills, four digs, three assists and three aces on the week. Against Central Connecticut, Roland posted eight kills and six blocks and later in the weekend had eight more kills and two block assists against Quinnipiac. Roland also had two kills and three blocks against Yale. Roland hit .375 in Binghamton's win over Quinnipiac. Her six blocks against Central Connecticut tied the season high for the Bearcats.
Uitti, who reached the 3,000 career assists mark two weekends ago, was named MVP and All-Tournament team selection in leading the Wildcats to the PC Friar Classic title last weekend. Uitti continues to set the tone for the Wildcat offense, handing out 123 assists (11.18 aps), including three matches with 30+ assists. She aided the Wildcats' team hitting percentage of .216 and the team's conference-high 13.85 kills per set last week. In addition to her high assist total, Uitti added 24 digs (2.18 dps), seven aces, five blocks and a pair of kills. This is Uitti's sixth career weekly honor from the conference and the fifth Setter of the Week award.
For the second straight week, a major milestone was met as University of Hartford senior Erin Macro slammed home her 1,000th career kill during weekend action. The milestone came on her fourth kill of the match against Columbia.
Conference play begins this weekend when Hartford and New Hampshire host Stony Brook and Binghamton on Friday night, and then host UMBC and Albany on Sunday afternoon.

Holiday Inn Tournament hosted by Penn over the weekend... The Great Danes
defeated Santa Clara, 3-1, St. Francis (Pa.), 3-0, and the host
Quakers, 3-1... Senior outside hitter Valerie Sourbeer led the team, averaging
3.27 kills per set... She recorded
a match-high 17 kills along with a .417 hitting percentage in the opening match
against Santa Clara...
Senior middle blocker Hillary White (Aberdeen,
S.D./Aberdeen) averaged 3.00 kills per set along with 2.09 digs and four total
blocks... Junior setter Brooke Stanley (Hendersonville,
N.C./West Henderson)
was named to the All-Tournament Team for the fifth time this season, earning
tournament MVP honors for the second time... Stanley averaged 10.82 assists, 1.09 kills,
1.91 digs and recorded a .346 hitting percentage over the three matches... In the
tournament finale against Penn, Stanley
recorded 42 assists, six kills, seven digs, four service aces and a .455
hitting percentage... Sophomores Kalyn Mostert (Napean, Ontario/Marivale) and
Casey Wright (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) led the Great Danes at the net,
recording 13 and 18 blocks, respectively... Sophomore libero Laurie Gonzalez (Carolina, Puerto Rico/St.
Francis School) averaged 6.45 digs per set en route to being named to the All-Tournament team for the Great Danes... UAlbany will return to action on
Wednesday, visiting Colgate at 7 p.m. before kicking of America East Conference
play on Sunday at New Hampshire.
Binghamton
(7-8, 0-0 AE) went 1-2 this past weekend ... The Bearcats were 0-2 at the Yale Classic,
losing in five sets to Central Connecticut before being swept by Yale ... The Bearcats
picked up their lone win in a 3-1 result at Quinnipiac ... Junior setter Lindsey
Mueller (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) and junior hitter Michelle McDonough
(Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) represented Binghamton on the Yale Classic
All-Tournament team... McDonough led the team with
a 4.42 kills per set average and surpassed the 800 career-kill mark on the week
... McDonough entered the week with 799 kills and now has 852 in just 80 career
matches... McDonough also posted 3.08 digs per set and had double-digit dig
totals in every match... Junior hitter Anna Lejina (Riga, Latvia/Riga
Secondary/Univ. of Latvia) tallied 4.08 kills per set, which included a
season-high 23 kill effort against Central Connecticut and 19 kills against Quinnipiac... Lejina hit .281 on the week (49-17-144)... Mueller dished out a season-high 60
assists against CCSU and finished the week with a 10.23 average... Brianna
Strong (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) led the team with 4.25 digs per set from the
back row... Freshman middle blocker Alex Roland (Austin, Texas/Austin) had a team-high
11 blocks (0.92 bps) and also had 18 kills on the week ... Binghamton will host
Siena on Wednesday before starting the America East slate at New Hampshire on
Friday.
The Hartford volleyball team (6-9,
0-0 AE) finished 1-2 overall last week with a three-set win on the
road at Bryant and a pair of losses in a tri-match at Columbia (four sets) with
Cornell (five sets) ... Senior middle hitter Erin
Macro (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) led the Hawks in all three matches, finishing
with double digit kills in all ... She opened the week going errorless against
the Bulldogs, finishing with 10 kills in 13 total attacks for a .769 hitting
percentage ... She then set a new career high with 22 kills against the Big Red
and with her fourth kill, out of 16 total, against the Lions became the first
player to surpass 1,000 career kills since 2007 graduate Jennifer Monroy... Also
hitting well on the week was freshman Kami
Nethersole (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and senior setter Lindsay Ford (Carson, Nev./Carson) ...
Nethersole finished the week with 30 kills and only six errors in 84 total
attacks for a .286 hitting percentage, while Ford finished with 19 kills and
three total errors in 35 attacks for a.457 hitting percentage... The Hawks will
play the final match of seven-straight road matches against in-state rival
Central Connecticut on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ... Hartford will then open up
conference play with back-to-back home matches against Stony Brook (Friday at
6 p.m.) and UMBC (Sunday at 1 p.m.).
UMBC (7-7, 0-0 AE) played one match
last week, defeating James Madison, 3-1, on Tuesday in Harrisonburg, Va....
Sophomore Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) led the Retrievers,
hitting .471 with nine kills, while senior Kira Giles (Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada/Glenlawn) earned a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs... Junior
Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) added nine kills and nine
digs, while senior Pam Jarrett (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X) led the team with
12 digs... Giles stands just 41 assists from becoming the fourth player in UMBC
history to earn 3,000 career assists, while Jarrett is 11 digs shy of eighth-place on the career digs list with 1,062... The Retrievers return to action
after a week off to take on crosstown rival Towson at the RAC Arena Tuesday at
7 p.m.
University of New Hampshire (8-9, 0-0 AE) went a
perfect 4-0 including capturing the tournament title at the Providence College
Friar Classic... After dropping the first set of the week, New Hampshire closed
out the week capturing 12-straight sets... The four-match winning streak is UNH's
longest streak since November, 2007... The red-hot Wildcats completed
non-conference play just one match below .500 after going just 2-8 over their
first 10 matches... UNH's eight wins surpassed last year's win total... New
Hampshire's tournament win at Providence was its first tourney win since it
captured the UNH Tournament on Sept. 15, 2007... Senior setter Kate Uitti
(Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) was named tournament MVP... Uitti dished out 90
assists during the weekend and also had six service aces... Senior Lindsay
Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) was named to the All-Tournament team at the PC Classic... Fogarty
hit at a remarkable .360 percentage with a team-best 44 kills and also added
six blocks and seven digs... Senior Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) continues to
work her way back from injury with 30 kills over the weekend... Bates now has 908
kills for her storied career and is just 82 kills away from becoming sixth
Wildcat in the 1,000 kills club and the first since Emmy Blouin (1,293) did so
in the 2007 season... Another member of that prestigious list is current Wildcat
assistant coach Erin Walker (1,280) and her sister Jen Walker (1,080)... The
Wildcats return to action when it plays host to the America East opener vs.
Binghamton University on Oct. 2; start time at Lundholm Gymnasium is 7 p.m... UNH
will also play host to league foe Albany on Sunday, Oct. 4 (1 p.m.)... Sunday's
match against Albany is part of the "Dig Pink" promotion... For the third-straight
season, the Wildcats are hosting a match to help raise funds and awareness for
breast cancer.
Stony Brook (7-8, 0-0 AE)
will return to action this week following a ten-day layoff when they face Long
Island on Tuesday... The Seawolves will then open America East play on Friday,
taking on Hartford... Stony Brook is in the midst of a five-match win streak, its longest since the 2007 season.
