America East in the Polls: UMBC Men's Soccer Scores National Recognition with a Seven Win Start

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - One of four perfect teams in the country, and the only men's soccer team in the nation to start 7-0-0, UMBC climbed the regional rankings and earned national recognition in the polls this week.

UMBC rose to third in the NSCAA/adidas Northeast regional rankings and 27th nationally in the College Soccer News poll. The Retrievers also received 37 votes for the NSCAA/adidas national rankings for the first time this year. The team recorded its seventh win Saturday defeating Drexel, 3-0. The Retrievers' seven-win start breaks the program's Division I record held by the 1999 team that was 6-0-1 after seven games. After a tough loss to Boston College on Friday, Boston U. dropped to sixth in the regional poll and 19th in the national rankings. The Terriers maintained a ranking of 22nd in the College Soccer News poll. Boston U. rebounded from the Friday loss to Boston College with a 1-0 win over Columbia on Sunday.

Four America East field hockey teams received votes in the NFHCA Division I national coaches' poll.  Boston U. (52 votes), University at Albany (38), and University of Maine (29) received votes for the third-straight week. Boston U. posted two shutout victories this past weekend defeating Sacred Heart 7-0 and Dartmouth 1-0. UAlbany also went undefeated last week bouncing back from two losses with two shutout wins.  Its defense continues to shin this season, ranked #1 among all Division I teams in save percentage. Maine earned three key wins on the weekend over Sacred Heart, 6-0, Pacific U.,7-2, and Rutgers, 4-2, improving to 7-1 overall. Ranked third in the country in scoring average, goals per game, points per game and assists per game, Maine continues to climb the national NFHCA poll. University of New Hampshire (6) earned votes for the third week this season after extending its winning streak to three by beating Holy Cross, 5-2, on Saturday. 

The Boston U. women's soccer team rebounded Sunday beating Harvard, 1-0.  The win over Harvard helped propel the team to 10th in the Northeast regional rankings.
