ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Major League Lacrosse stars Brendan Mundorf, Brett Queener, Merrick Thomson and Drew Westervelt, who combined to win six conference America East Championships from 2004-07, will once again square off for a league title as the quartet led their respective squads to one-goal wins in the MLL semifinals Saturday to earn spots in the league title game on Sunday.
UMBC alums Mundorf and Westervelt will lead the top-seeded Denver Outlaws, who downed the fourth-seeded Boston Cannons 11-10 in the semis, against the second-seeded Toronto Nationals, which downed the third-seeded Long Island Lizards and are paced by Albany grads Thomson and Queener. The contest will be televised nationally on ESPN2 at 1 p.m.
Mundorf and Thomson, the 2006 and 2007 America East Championship Most Outstanding Playe respectively, were both named to the All-MLL team on Friday. Mundorf ranks third in the league with 35 goals, while Thomson, who finished second in both MVP and Warrior Most Outstanding Offensive Player voting, is second with 50 points. Westervelt is third with 46 points, while Queener, a goalkeeper, is in search of his second league title in as many seasons after playing his rookie year in Rochester.
