CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Ten America East student-athletes earned track & field all-academic awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) this week for their academic and athletic excellence during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Six females and four males were recognized from the conference.
A record 531 student-athletes were recognized on the women's all-academic team, including University at Albany's Fey Adaramola and Laura Cummings, University of Maine's Corey Conner, Stony Brook University's Holly and Lucy Van Dalen, and University of Vermont's Leah Grout.
On the men's side, Valete Graham, Andrew Overbaugh and Peter Rowell from Albany, and Doug Maisey from Vermont were among the record total of 327 honored.
Lucy Van Dalen, Cummings, Graham and Overbaugh each earned America East All-Academic status for both the outdoor and indoor seasons, while Holly Van Dalen received the honor for the outdoor season. The ten honorees combined for 10 America East indoor or outdoor conference championships during the 2008-09 year.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the
student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of
3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or
provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional
or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
