IWLCA, US Lacrosse Hand Out All-America Recognition

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Four America East women's lacrosse players were tabbed All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse, highlighted by two-time Player of the Year Sarah Dalton's placement on the First Team. Twelve players representing five of the league's squads were also named to an All-Region team this week.

Dalton, a senior midfielder from Boston University, was joined on the All-America Team by teammates McKinley Curro, a junior attack, and Kelly Munroe, a senior defender, as well as University of New Hampshire senior attack Sarah Von Bargen who were all named to the Third Team. Dalton and Munroe were also named to the first and third womenslacrosse.com All-America teams, respectively, earlier in the week.

The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 13, 2009 in King of Prussia, Pa.

In choosing the student-athletes for this recognition, the IWLCA has strict nominating guidelines that must be adhered to by all member institutions. The 2009 All-Regional and All-American honorees have met both the nominating and selection criteria.

Dalton (Cornwall, Vt.) led the conference, and the nation, with 91 goals this season at 4.79 goals per game. She also led America East with 102 points (5.37 per game). Dalton led the Terriers to their fifth-straight America East Championship and NCAA Tournament berth, and was named the conference championship's Most Outstanding Player after scoring a tournament-record 11 goals in two games. She led Boston U. with 50 ground balls, 58 draw controls and 141 shots.

Curro ranked second only to Dalton with 71 points this season and ranked fourth in America East with 31 assists. The native of Amherst, N.H. started 18 of 19 games for the Terriers and was a unanimous first-team All-America East pick.

Munroe, the Most Outstanding Player of the 2008 America East Championship, was also named to the All-tournament team in 2009. She received All-Conference honors for the third straight year this season and was the leader of the Terrier defensive unit. The native of Westwood, Mass. recorded 23 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers in 19 games.

Curro, Dalton, Vermont senior midfielder Kristen Millar, Munroe, UNH senior defender Beth Stankus, and Von Bargen all received Northeast All-Region first-team nods from the IWLCA/US Lacrosse. University at Albany junior midfielder Kayla Best, sophomore defender Nikki Branchini, Boston U. junior attack Erica Baumgartner, junior midfielder Traci Landy and UNH junior attack Shaunna Kaplan were honored on the All-Northeast Second Team, and UMBC senior midfielder Kara Dorr earned a spot on the All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team. Millar was also named to the womenslacrosse.com All-America Third Team.

Earlier in the week, Dalton also received the LaxPower Fan Award for best women's senior attack.
