Records Fall As Albany, Vermont And Boston Earn Weekly Track And Field Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- All of this week’s America East Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week turned in record-breaking performances as University of Vermont’s Justin Scricca (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) and University at Albany’s Kamilah McShine (Spring Valley, N.Y./ Ramapo) earned the male and female weekly track accolades and Albany’s Luke Schoen (Bohemia, M.Y./West Islip) and Boston University’s Tahari James (Branford, Conn./Branford) earned the male and female field honors.  

Scricca broke a 32-year old school record in the 200-meter run at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University by placing second among collegiate runners.  The junior’s time of 21.72 shattered the old school mark of 21.84, set by Bernard Gagnon.

McShine became the first Great Dane female to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championship this season when she posted an eighth-place time of 1:00.27 in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.  The senior went on to qualify for the ECAC Championship in the 100-meter high hurdles, breaking a personal record with a time of 13.96 seconds.  

Schoen won the pole vault event at the Duke Asics Invitational en route to qualifying for the NCAA East Regional Championship by clearing a height of 17-feet, 6.5 inches.   The mark broke the senior’s previous school record of 17-5, a height he reached at two separate meets last year.

James qualified for the NCAA Regional Championship in two separate events at the Pepsi Florida Relays this weekend, setting a new school record with her leap of 6.3 meters in the long jump and recording a mark of 12.89 meters in the triple jump.  A senior in her last semester of eligibility, James went on to anchor the 4x400-meter relay team that set the school record with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:47.39.

Albany- The Great Danes competed at the Florida Relays and the Duke Asics Invitational this weekend and saw five school records eclipsed and met.  In Florida, senior Joe Greene qualified for the NCAA East Regional for the second time in as many chances in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a third-place time of 50.25 seconds, and senior Jen Gurrant qualified for the ECAC Championship by placing fifth in the triple jump (40-1.5). Senior pole vaulter Luke Schoen qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championship and broke his own school record in the event by clearing 17-feet, 6.5 inches at the Duke Asics Invitational while classmate Kamilah McShine became the first woman in the school’s history to qualify for the NCAA Regional by finishing the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 1:00.27.

Albany's Story

Binghamton- At the Princeton/Sam Howell Invitational this past weekend, freshman Michelle Eberhart out-leaped a field of 17 competitors in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 5.25 inches, while placing sixth in the long jump (17-2).  Senior Joanel Lopez earned second in a field of 16 competitors in the men’s shot put, marking a distance of 15.72 meters.

Binghamton's Story

Boston- The Terriers saw a pair of school records fall this weekend and had senior Tahari James qualify for the NCAA Regional in both the long jump and triple jump, winning the events at the Florida Relays with distances of 6.30 meters and 12.89 meters, respectively.  James’ long jump mark set a new school record, as did the women’s 4x400-meter relay team’s time of 3:47.39.  Senior Chadd Steinhauser qualified for the New England Championships in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.36 and was part of the Terriers’ IC4A-qualifying 4x400-relay team (3:12.42).

Boston's Story

Hartford- The Hawks competed at the University of Connecticut Alumni Invitational on Saturday where senior Elizabeth Foster earned the top finish of the day, earning a second place finish in the 5000-meter run (17:43.79).  Teammate Kristalena Lamore led the women in the field events, placing sixth in the triple jump (10.37m) and fourth in the long jump (5.16m).  Highlighting the men’s team, rookie Anderson Emerole finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.34s) while junior Stephan Jospitre earned fourth in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump, scoring distances of 12.99 and 6.11 meters, respectively.  

Hartford's Story

Maine- The Black Bears traveled to New Hampshire for the Wildcat Invitational to compete against America East rival New Hampshire, Holy Cross and Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, and were led by Jesse Labreck on the women’s side, who won the high jump and the triple jump with leaps of 5 feet, 5.75 inches and 39 feet, 3 inches, respectively. For the men, junior Miles Bartlett won the steeple chase with a time of 9:45.92 and freshman Trevor England won the triple jump (45-0.25) and placed fourth in the long jump (20-9.25).  

Maine's Story

UMBC- The Retrievers competed at the Penn Invite on Saturday where junior Adrian Arthur qualified for the IC4A Championship with a second-place time of 10.83 seconds in the 100-meter dash.  Other top finishers included classmate Keith Brown, who earned third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.94), and sophomore Victor Gilreath’s second-place finish in the men’s high jump (1.98m).  For the women, junior Britney Foreman placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.39s) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (25.59) and senior Kierra Gregory earned fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.82).

UMBC's Story

New Hampshire- The Wildcats saw a combined 19 first-place finishes this weekend when they hosted the Wildcat Invite, six coming from the women’s squad and the remaining 13 coming from the men.  Junior Will Brehm and senior Reed Liset each earned a pair of victories with Brehm placing first in the 100- (10.86) and 200-meter runs (22.16) while Liset earned first in the discus (45.92m) and hammer throw (57.72m).  For the women, freshman Laura Stern led the field, placing first in the javelin with an ECAC Championship- and U.S. Junior Nationals-qualifying throw of 41.95 meters.  

New Hampshire's Story

Stony Brook- The Seawolves did not compete this weekend but will return to action when they travel to compete at the Quinnipiac Quad Meet on Wednesday and the Massachusetts Invitational in Amherst over the weekend.

Vermont- Catamount junior Justin Scricca broke a 32-year old school record in the 200-meter run at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University on Saturday, finishing in 21.71 seconds, breaking the previous record by .12 seconds.  Scricca’s time earned him third in the field of 30 competitors. For the women, Aly Millet posted a fifth-place time of 2:15.47 in the 800-meter run while freshman Elyse Ogletree finished third in the javelin with a distance of 41.92 meters.
