CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- University at Albany’s Jean Juste (Hempstead,
N.Y./Uniondale) and Stony Brook University’s Holly Van Dalen earn America East male
and female Track Performer of the Week accolades while Boston University’s
Tahari James (Branford, Conn./Branford) and Albany’s Luke Schoen (Bohemia,
N.Y./West Islip) have been selected as Field Performers of the week.
Juste won the 110-meter high hurdles at two different meets
this week and qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championship for the first
time in his career. After winning the
event at the St. John’s Monday Meeting (14.36), the senior went on the run a
personal-best time in the event at the UTECH Track and Field Classic in
Jamaica, posting a first-place time of 14.14.
Van Dalen shattered her previous school record in the
5,000-meter run by more than 18 seconds, posting an NCAA Regional qualifying
time of 16:14.17 at the Mount SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. The sophomore finished fourth overall in the
Olympic Development heat.
James, a senior, achieved the fourth best mark in the nation
in the women’s triple jump this week at the Connecticut Spring Invitational. Posting a distance of 13.42m, James won the
event for the third straight week and went on to run a leg of the 4x100-meter
relay team that set a new school record (46.23).
Schoen remains undefeated in the pole vault event during the
spring season, capturing the event for the third consecutive time at Princeton’s
Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend.
The senior cleared 17-feet, 0.5 inches and automatically qualified for
the NCAA East Regional Championship.
Albany- The Great Danes sent athletes to the elite UTECH
Track and Field Classic held at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on
Saturday, April 18 and had four hurdlers meet the NCAA East Regional
Championship qualifying standard. Junior
Alie Beauvais and seniors Kamilah McShine, Joe Greene and Jean Juste met the
hurdling standard, while senior Luke Schoen qualified for the NCAA postseason
competition in the pole vault (17-feet, 0.5 inches) for the second straight
week.
Binghamton- Sophomore Erik van Ingen won the 1,500-meter run
at the Princeton/Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday with an NCAA Regional qualifying
time of 3:46.19. The rest of the Bearcats
competed at the Bucknell team challenge where senior Justin Hidalgo win the men’s
hammer throw (178-10) and freshman Kaitlin Sullivan and junior Caitlin Wright
placed second in the 110 hurdles (15.13) and 400 hurdles (1:03.41), respectively.
Boston- Boston University was in action at the Connecticut
Spring Invitational on Saturday, where the men finished second of four teams,
while the meet was non-scoring for the women. The Terriers' 4x100m relay team
of junior Whitney Ford, senior Tahari James, sophomore Laura Martin and
freshman Shelby Walton set a school record with a time of 46.23, finishing
second in the race. James won the triple jump for the third week in a row,
posting the fourth-best mark in the nation this season at 13.42m, while Ford
qualified for NCAA Regionals in the event with a 12.34m mark good for fifth
place. Freshman Jackie Dim won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.41. On the
men's side, junior Jan Bicanic won the discus throw (49.40m) and finished
second in the shot put (15.53m). Sophomore Joel Senick won the 400m dash in
48.87 and finished fourth in the 200m dash in 22.04. The Terriers are in action
again this week at the Penn Relays and the Brown Invitational.
Hartford- The Hawks saw three individual victories and set
four school records on Saturday at the Holy Cross Quad Meet. Kristalena Lamore, a freshman, broke the
school record in the long jump with a first-place distance of 5.46 meters while
Kaycee Martinez, a junior, won the 400-meter hurdles for the second time this
season with a time of 1:03.71. For the
men, freshman Andrew Chalmers earned his first collegiate victory in the
3,000-meter steeplechase (10:02.20) while senior teammate Ryan Trupin earned
two Top 10 victories by finishing third in the high jump (1.88m) and ninth in
the long jump (6.14m).
Maine- The Black Bears competed at the Holy Cross Quad Meet
on Saturday where the women finished second and the men, third. Alli Krous won
the women’s javelin event with a throw of 128-0.3. Vicki Tolton broke her own school record in
the 400-meter run, posting an NCAA Regional-qualifying time of 53.79 at the LSU
Alumni Gold Meet. Riley Masters
highlighted the men, winning the 1,500-meter run at LSU with a time of
3:48.52. Freshman Connor Tarr earned
third in the hammer throw at Holy Cross with a distance of 141-5.
UMBC- Adrian Arthur, a junior, highlighted the Retrievers at
the Bucknell Team Challenge this week, winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes
with IC4A-qualifying times of 10.72 and 21.33, respectively. Freshman Imani Colbert earned fifth in the women’s
100-meter hurdles at the Morgan State Legacy Track Meet, finishing in an
ECAC-qualifying time of 14.16. Sophomore
Victor Gilreath also qualified for post season competition at Morgan State with
his sixth-place 2.05 meter high jump and his third-place 14.59 meter triple
jump, both of which qualified him for the IC4A Championship.
New Hampshire-The Wildcats traveled New Jersey for the Larry
Ellis Invitational and had three student athletes turn in multiple Top 10
performances. Senior Jeff Kaste earned sixth
in the hammer throw with an NCAA Regional-qualifying toss of 56.95 meters and finished
seventh in the shot put with a throw of 15.45 meters. Ashley Lathrop broke her own school record in
the hammer throw with a second-place toss of 51.09 meters and was sixth in the
discus with a throw of 38.86 meters. Sophomore Camille Quarles earned a second-place
finish in the triple jump with an ECAC Championship-qualifying leap of 12.00
meters. Later, Quarles finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 5.18
meters.
Stony Brook- The Stony Brook duo of twin sisters Holly and
Lucy Van Dalen qualified for the NCAA Regional Championship and set new school
records this week in the 5,000 and 1,500
meter runs, respectively. Holly competed
at the Mount SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., finishing almost 18 seconds ahead of
her own record with a time 16:14.17 while sister Lucy ran at the Larry Ellis
Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey, and crossed in 4:21.12. For the men, Tim ran an IC4A qualifying time
in the 5,000 meter at the Larry Ellis Invitational. His time of 14:19.60 was
fast enough for an 8th place finish overall. Teammate Daire Bermingham won the
1,500-meter run at the Mount SAC Relays by finishing in a season-best time of
3:51.16.
Vermont- The Catamounts competed at the Dartmouth Outdoor
Invitational on Saturday where both men and women’s squads finished
fourth. Jan Carlson, a junior, led the
women with a first-place finish in the 400-meter run (57.19) and went on to run
a leg of the first-place 4x100 relay.
Senior Aaron Campbell highlighted the men’s squad, crossing first in the
200-meter dash with a time of 21.81.
