CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - University of Hartford's Scott Bement (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and Stony Brook University's Kyle Belton (Langley, B.C./H.D. Strafford) led their respective teams to key late-season victories in men's lacrosse and have earned America East Player and Rookie of the Week honors for April 20.

Bement, the Player of the Week,  played a key role in helping Hartford snap a 26 game losing streak Monday and shock No. 6 UMBC Saturday. He set the tone in the cage for the Hawks with a career-high 19 saves to hold the nation's fifth best offense to four goals under their average made 11. The freshman made 11 of his stops in the second half, including five in the decisive fourth quarter. Bement also made 10 saves in the Hawks' 14-5 win over Presbyterian. Bement, who also picked up four ground balls in the two games, ranks among league leaders with 9.68 goals against average and a .592 save percentage.

Belton, the Rookie of the Week, scored three goals in a 20 minute span that bridged the second and third quarter to spark a 14-9 win over Binghamton Saturday. The freshman attack helped the Seawolves, who have won three straight, expand their lead with a goal three goals during a 7-1 Stony Brook run that produced a 10-2 lead midway through the third quarter. Belton, who has started 8-of-11 games this season, ranks fourth on his team with 12 goals.

UMBC, which had its six game win streak snapped at Hartford Saturday, fell to 10th in both the USILA Coaches' Poll and the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. Albany fell to 20th in the Coaches' Poll after going 1-1 last week. The Great Danes, who fell at No. 4 Syracuse Friday and edged Vermont Sunday, are receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Poll.

Genik leads the team in scoring on the season with 22 goals and nine assists for 31 points... Freshman Ryan Compitello (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) also topped the 30-point mark last week with three goals and three assists, giving him 17 goals and a team-high 1 3 assists on the season... Hartford will wrap up the regular season at Binghamton University on Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m. A win over the Bearcats, coupled with a Vermont loss to UMBC, would earn the Hawks their first America East Championship berth since 2003.

UMBC
(9-3, 3-1 America East) had  series of streaks snapped in Saturday’s 10-8 loss at Hartford... Gone are the six-game winning streak, a four-game road win streak, a 12-game America East (regular season) winning streak, a five-game, previously undefeated run against the Hawks and a 14-game winning skein on Saturdays... UMBC can still clinch the No. 1 seed in the America East Tournament with a win over Vermont on Saturday... The Retrievers are 5-0 vs. Vermont, but rallied for an 8-6 win in Burlington last spring... UMBC has won 12 straight America East home games and 19 in a row at home on Saturdays... A win would give UMBC a share of the conference title, an honor they have won outright or tied for in the last four seasons... UMBC outshot Hartford, 54-24, but the Retrievers only capitalized on one of six extra-man opportunities.. UMBC entered the game at 56.8%, the leading team in the nation on extra-man... The Retrievers have been ranked in the top ten nationally in man-up offense in four of the past five seasons... Junior attackman Matt Latham (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) led UMBC with three goals vs. the  Hawks... He now has 25 goals in his last nine league outings... Senior midfielder Peet Poillon (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley/Ohio State) had a pair of goals and has multiple points in 21 of his 28 collegiate games... junior long-stick midfielder Mike Camardo (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) collected two ground balls vs. Hartford and now has 100 in his career... Saturday’s game vs. the Catamounts will be televised nationally on ESPNU and locally by ABC-2... Nine seniors will be honored in pre-game ceremonies. 

Stony Brook
(7-4, 3-1 America East) has now won three straight, its second longest win streak of the season ... all of Stony Brook’s wins and losses have come in streaks of at least two this season ... the Seawolves have recorded at least 10 goals in during its win streak ... in all of Stony Brook’s wins the Seawolves have scored at least 10 goals ... Stony Brook has had at least seven different players score in its last three games ... freshmen accounted for seven of the 14 goals against the Bearcats ... after a slow start that saw him win just one of his first five face-offs, Adam Rand rebounded to finish with 15 wins in 20 tries ... second in the nation in face-off percentage coming into the BU game, he has won nearly 75 percent of his attempts over the last five games ... the Seawolves have won better than 50 percent of its face-offs in every game but two  ... Jordan McBride’s three goals against Hartford gives him 10 straight games with at least two goals  ... McBride’s goals kept his scoring streak alive going back to last season ... he has now scored a point in 18 straight games, tops on the team ... McBride moved to 12th all-time at SBU with 76 career goals against Binghamton  ... Stony Brook has picked up more ground balls than its opponent in six straight games ... Vermont (4-9, 1-3 America East)
lost to No. 20 Albany 9-6 on Sunday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field ... Senior Andrew Kelleher (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) notched a hat trick and an assist in the loss ... Kelleher has a team leading 35 goals and 44 points on the season ... He also has a team best .432 shot percentage (35 for 81) ... Freshman Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) recorded a goal and three assists against the Great Danes ... Worley leads the team with 17 assists and is second in points (33) ... Sophomore Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul’s) scored his 20th goal of the season against Albany and also had a team-high 12 shots and six ground balls ... Lichtfuss has a team leading 89 shots on the season ... He has 57 career points in 29 games ... Kelleher, Lichtfuss and Worley have accounted for 72-percent of Vermont’s goals this season (71 of 99) ... The trio has recorded a total of 105 points ... Freshman Alex Plavner (Arnold, Md./Severn) made nine saves against Albany in his second career start ... Freshman Peter Oswald (Cohasset, Mass./Thayer Academy) went 9 for 15 on face offs against the Great Danes and has won 50-percent (64 for 128) of his draws on the season ...
