Greene, Adaramola, Withrow And Even Earn Season's First Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-  Opening the first week of the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field season, University at Albany’s Joe Greene (Rochester, N.Y./Edison Tech) and Fey Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y./Trevor/Central Florida) earn male and female Track Performer of the Week awards, while Boston University’s Dan Withrow (Dedham Mass./Dedham) and University of Maine’s Rebecca Even (Stoneham, Mass./Fryeburg Academy) earn male and female Field Performer of the Week accolades.  

Greene, a 2007 All-American in the 400-meter hurdles, qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championship in the event at the Carolina Classic in Puerto Rico on Saturday.  The senior placed first with a winning time of 51.69 seconds.

Adaramola qualified for the ECAC Championship in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.71 seconds at the Carolina Classic on Saturday.  The junior went on to run the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay team which posted an ECAC?qualifying time of 3:50.57.

Withrow, a sophomore, finished second in a field of 43 competitors in the discus throw at the Husky Spring Invitational on Saturday, posting an IC4A-qualifying mark of 49.86m.  

Even, a sophomore, broke a school record by recording a distance of 171-03 feet in the hammer throw at the Cal-Northridge Invitational.

Albany- The Great Danes competed at the Carolina Classic in Puerto Rico on Saturday, and saw several athletes qualify for post season competition.  Joe Greene qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championship in the 400-meter hurdles, while teammates Alie Beauvais and Wilfredo de jesus Elias qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 400-meter hurdles and the hammer throw, respectively.  For the women, Fey Adaramola led the pack, qualifying for the ECAC Championship in the 200-meter dash and anchoring the 4x400-meter relay team to a qualifying time of 3:50.57.

Binghamton- The Bearcats kick off their outdoor season on Friday, March 28, at Army.

Boston- The Terriers sent their throwers to the Husky Spring Invitational on Saturday, where sophomore Dan Withrow and junior Jan Bicanic earned second and fourth in the discus throw, scoring 49.86m and 46.35m, respectively.  For the women, sophomore Jen Fleser earned fifth in the hammer throw (42.80m).  

Hartford- The Hawks’ season will begin at the Trinity Invitational on Saturday, March 28.

Maine- The Black Bears traveled to the University of California-Northridge this weekend, and were led by freshman Riley Masters on the men’s side, who won the 1500-meter run in a time of 3:50.52, and the 5000 meter run in a time of 15:02.75.  For the women, freshman Corey Conner won the 5000-meter run (17:30.66) and placed second in the 1500-meter run (4:33.56), while teammate Rebecca Even, a sophomore, broke a school record and placed second in the hammer throw (171-03).

UMBC- The Retrievers will compete at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, March 28 to begin their outdoor season.  

UNH- The Wildcats will travel to conference rival Maine for their first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, March 28.

Stony Brook- The Monmouth Invitational on Saturday, March 28 will be the Seawolves’ first outdoor competition of the year.  

Vermont- The Catamounts with travel to Tufts for the Snowflake Classic on Saturday, March 28.
