CAMBRDIGE, Mass.- According to the preseason coaches’ poll, the University at Albany men and the Boston University women will defend their titles at the 2009 America East Outdoor Track & Field Championship. For the men, this would mark their fifth consecutive title, while for the women, it would be their second.
The Great Danes were unanimously chosen among the coaches, earning all eight possible first place votes, as coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team, and totaling 64 points. University of New Hampshire received the remaining first place nod along with 54 points to earn a second place finish.
Binghamton University was chosen as a close third (51 points), and is trailed by UMBC (42) and Boston University (36) in fourth and fifth, respectively. Rounding out the nine team field is University of Maine in sixth with 29 points, followed by University of Vermont (21), Stony Brook University (19) and University of Hartford (eight points).
For the women, the Terriers received seven of the possible eight first-place votes and tallied 62 total points. University of New Hampshire and University at Albany each earned one of the remaining first-place votes, with the Wildcats (55 points) edging out the Great Danes (54) by a single point for sole possession of the second place slot.
University of Vermont earned 37 points and the fourth position, followed by University of Maine (32) and Binghamton University (31) battling it out for the fifth and sixth spot, respectively. Rounding out the nine team field is UMBC (28), Stony Brook University (17) and University of Hartford (eight points).
