Senior goalkeeper Jeremy Blevins allowed just one first-half goal and made seven stops to lead 10th-ranked UMBC to a 9-7 win at fifth-ranked Maryland for the program's third straight win over its instate-rival in men's lacrosse. The upset highlighted a strong weekend for the conference as Albany and Stony Brook also posted strong wins.
Senior Alex Hopmann and junior Kyle Wimer each scored two goals and added an assist for the Retrievers, who jumped out a 5-1 lead which they never relinquished. Albany, which had already posted a 12=9 win over 13th-ranked UMass on Tuesday, rode sophmore Brian Caufields four goals to a 13-11 win at Drexel. Stony Brook also pulled out a nail-biter with a 10-9 win over Delaware in double overtime. Sophomore Jordan McBride, a preseason All-American and Tewarrton Trophy candidate, scored the game-winner with 2:57 left in the extra session.
Elsewhere over the weekend, Hartford dropped an 18-7 decision at No. 16 Harvard on Friday and Vermont was edged by Penn State, 7-5.
