2009 America East Women’s Basketball Championship Post Game Quotes
Semifinal #1: #1 Boston U. 57, #4 Binghamton 53
March 14, 2009
Boston University head coach Kelly Greenberg
Opening Remarks:
“I give our girls a lot of credit. We didn’t hit
free-throws, we missed layups, and we just gutted it out and figured it out
somehow.
“Binghamton is the best offensive rebounding team in the
conference. There’s no question they’re great at it.”
“We came out with a lot of energy, made early shots, things
were going our way and then it just stopped. We know that we’ve got to figure
it out so that it doesn’t happen again tomorrow.
Boston University
senior guard Amarachi Umez-Eronini
On whether there is
fatigue heading into championship tomorrow:
“We’re not fatigued after last
night’s game. It wasn’t so much physical fatigue as mental. After last night’s game we had a lot of time
to think about ourselves, about what can we do to better ourselves and to play
within ourselves. .. Play better as a team.”
Boston University
senior forward Jesyka Burks-Wiley
On getting up big and
losing the lead before halftime:
“We were getting really easy shots and things were flowing
for us. Then it stopped. Maybe early in
the game we were relying on our offense and once our offense wasn’t going, we
realized we had to really turn up our defense.”
Binghamton head coach
Nicole Scholl
Opening Remarks:
“They’ve really found a way to keep winning games and
they’re a tough team to play.”
“I’m really proud of our players. At the beginning, we got
down and could’ve given up but we didn’t. We kept on fighting and
unfortunately, came up short in the end.”
Binghamton senior
center Laura Franceski
On playing with four
fouls:
“We had to focus on our team defense, stay aggressive, but
try to stay smart. There was a sense of urgency that we have to get this done
and we need to play our defense we know how.”
Binghamton freshman
forward Viive Rebane
On giving up the big
lead to Boston U. to start the game:
“I think we were just nervous in the beginning.”
