2009 America East Women’s Basketball Championship Post Game Quotes

Quarterfinal #2: #1 Boston U. 77, #8 Albany 75 (OT)

March 13, 2009

Boston University head coach Kelly Greenberg

Opening Remarks:

“We’re certainly glad we pulled out a W. I can’t give enough credit to Trina and her staff for being ready from last night’s game and playing us the way they did.  They played a great game.”

“That’s what March Madness is all about. You have to take every possession of every game and be totally ready because anything can happen in March.”

Boston University senior forward Jesyka Burks-Wiley

“I do credit their defense but I also think we were playing out of character, and rushing shots when we were down a little bit. They were just really aggressive, taking away a lot of our strengths and forcing us to make some uncomfortable shots.”

Boston University senior point guard Christine Kinneary

“It’s definitely a little bit of a reality check. I think today, we just got a little worried and you feel the pressure building up that this is the end of our career as well. It feels great to be moving on. We definitely learned a lot from today and we’re going to take that into tomorrow’s game.”

On changing it more from 1-on-1 defense to overall team defense:

“I knew I just had to get to the hole.  I knew I had enough time to get to the basket so I wasn’t going to pull up for an outside three or anything crazy like that. I decided to stick with my strength with the right hand layup.  I just wanted to get the ball up the court as quick as possible.”

Albany head coach Trina Patterson

Opening Remarks:

“I’m very proud of this team. Our motto for this week was why not us? Why not today? I thought we played well enough to win. I’m so proud of the effort.”

“During the tournament it doesn’t matter about record. It matters about heart, pride, and no one thinking that Albany had a chance. But it’s just not good enough sometimes and leaving this place without the win is not good enough for us.”

Albany junior guard Britney McGee

“Coach told me to come in with the attack mentality and that’s what I did.  Shots fell, some didn’t.
